I logged on to the US site by mistake and saw the ad glaring at me. I don't believe they would be able to sell these on the open market in this country as you could probably do as much harm as good unless you were a fully trained medical professional

Not that I am rushing out to get one of these but...

It won't "shock" the patient unless he/she needs it. There is a EKG that you put on (little pads that stick on the chest) and the computer will tell you if the person "needs" it or not.

Hmmm - the thought that anyone untrained would consider using one of these in an emergency is very worrying - following on from that, I saw a report in which ambulance drivers/paramedics/doctors are increasingly being hampered at accidents etc. by people interfering, and saying that they know what to do because they have seen the same thing on Casualty

Speaking as an employee of the company that makes these things, I do know that they are completely idiot-proof and the machine talks you through the procedure, evaluates the patient etc.

And anyway, with the amount of lawsuits that they have in the US they must be safe!! Besides, haven't you noticed them in all the resorts and parks at Disney....

They are probably safer than heart massage, 'cause if you do that wrongly you can cause some serious damage...

ps. If my MIL had had one of these my FIL would probably still be alive. He dropped dead of heart failure and she didn't have a clue, by the time the ambulance came it was too late.
