No Haunted Mansion for us after all :(

Argh! I'm so disappointed!

As we were first planning our trip, we weren't sure whether we'd hit the parks on our first day there. BUT...then we saw that Haunted Mansion was going down for TNBC overlay on September 8.

Our arrival date is September 7, so that sealed it. We bought a 4-day park hopper and planned to spend the first day riding the Haunted Mansion.

Now with only two weeks to go, I went to the Disneyland Web site for schedule updates. ARGH! Haunted Mansion is closed on Sept 7. :( :( :(

I wouldn't have bought a 4-day if it wasn't for wanting to ride HM. :::sigh:::

Oh well. I'm sure we'll still have fun. But Disney with no HM? It's just not the same.

I'm sorry. Even though its not the end of the world, its such a bummer when stuff like that happens. I say keep checking the schedule and hope for the best. My friend has a horse obsessed little girl who wanted to ride the carousel more than anything else. It was scheduled to be closed, (this was last May) but it ended up being open when they were there. You never know!!!!! I really hope you guys get to ride it.....

Thanks...me too! :)

I love your name and I love Kettle Corn! Since this will be our first DLR trip, where do we get the good Kettle Corn in DTD? :)

Also...whenever we're at WDW, we make sure to get caramel corn in MK. Is there anywhere in DLR that has great caramel corn, too? :)

Hi Lynne!

The DTD kettlecorn is absolutely amazing and you can smell it from a mile away. We buy it from a cart down by the disney pin trading stand (sorta by the RFC I think), but it's been awhile, so I may be off. And, it's a pretty good deal if you buy the kettlecorn and drink combo (around $5-6ish).

Anyhow, back to the original topic, we are also there when the HM was originally supposed to be open before the overlay goes up and I am super sad that we are missing it too. HM is always our family's first ride when we arrive on Friday afternoon. We head straight to the mansion and then double back to main street for cherry cokes and mickey shaped pretzels. I am not quite sure what to do... we have ALWAYS done it this way. I guess that POTC will have to substitute for us this trip.

Finally, I am on the same photoshare as you and I will have to keep an eye open for you in the parks. Will you have any LGMM?

I know how you feel. I planned my trip for (what I thought because that's what it was last year..) opening of the HMH. They moved Halloweentime down a week. Oh well see it at Christmas

Hurray! I can't tell you HOW excited I am about this Photoshare! OK...I'm a dope and don't know what LGMM is. Little help? :)

We will, however, be totally geeky Disney nerds at least one day...we bought matching tie-dyed Mickey t-shirts! So if you see shirts like that on two Goofy-looking middle-aged kids...say hello! We love to meet other Disney lovers!

Lynne

LGMM are lime green mickey mouse heads. They are actually paint samples that you pick up from Home Depot in the alien green color.

I don't know how it actually got started, but they have become the symbol of the disboards and people hang them in the room windows or doors at disney hotels; they attach them to their strollers or backpacks and think of all sorts of creative ways to display them to let others at the park (who are in on the secret code of sorts) know that they are part of the boards.

We will be in the parks from the early evening on the 5th through the morning of the 9th. On Sunday DH and DS will likely be wearing matching navy blue button down shirts from the disney store this summer. On Monday DS will have on his Lilo and Stitch 1st birthday tee that I designed on disneyshopping.com. Feel free to say hello if you see us!

The Haunted Mansion in DL always goes down at this time of year, every year, for the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay.

It was on the calendar to close on the 8th. This is a change, to close it on the 7th, from what it was when they first put it on the calendar.

Leofoenget, it's somehow linked with the timing of Thanksgiving. Last year t'giving was "early", and this year it's "late", and last year HM opened on the 21st, while this year if I can recall correctly it opens on the 26th. There's some sort of pattern that some of us have been working on all year. :upsidedow

Ah! Then a trip to The Home Depot is in our future! We'll be sure to be on the lookout for your matching shirts so we can say Happy Birthday to DS! :)

Actually they have moved the close date up to Sept. 2nd, so it is closing a full week longer this year than in the past. My assumption is that it is related to the work that they are doing to the sidewalks in that area at the same time that is also taking the NOS train stop down as well.

Aha, I figured it was the 7th since that was the date in the OP's post. :)

So it sounds like the work on the sidewalks are extra, not part of the annual closing...man oh man someone should have thought that through! They have GOT to know that people schedule based on the HM closing stuff, and to change that by a week is just not pretty.

oh rats! I just noticed that it'll be closed on the 5th when my mom is coming into to town!! Shucks!!

LynneDurham.....cheshiregirl is right.....just follow your nose to DTD's kettlecorn. We always buy it outside the giant DisneyStore. As far as it being in the park, I'm not sure! I have a recipe that we make here at home that is pretty darn close. But the atmosphere in our living room just can't compare :-)

Over the past 3 years the HM and IASW close down within the 1st week of Sept. right after labor day, HM has closed on the Tuesday right after Labor Day and IASW closed within the same week, all for the Holiday set-up. We will be there the same time (in 1 week) for whats become our annual trip. Bumbed about IASW closed, but we'll catch HM a couple times before it closes.

I'm sure you can still make good use of that extra day on your park hopper!!! :thumbsup2
