I just inquired about booking a value 2bedrrom at AKV for next year. AKV is our home resort so we are hoping we could save the points and be able to book it value. When i chatted online with the DVC rep they said they do not offer HA value rooms. I thought they had to have a HA room in every booking category?

I don't believe they are required to have an HA room in each booking category; they are required to have the HA rooms spread out among the room types (1BR, 2BR, King room, 2Q room, etc.) so that the disabled have similar choices.

I know when we toured the DVC for AKL, we were told that Kidani Village would best meet our needs for an accessible room because they were actually built as DVC rooms. The villas at Jambo House were AK Lodge rooms renovated into DVC rooms. They are smaller than the Kidani villas.

I Have heard there are only 5 Value DVC 2 bedroom units at Jambo House, with that small of a number, I don't think there would be a requirement to have some be accessible.

I ran into this before as well at POR we are a family of 5 and the only HA rooms that fit a family of 5 that were roll in shower were in the most expensive area.... hmmmmm???

Then presumably you already knew that they aren't required to have HA rooms in each booking category.

It is a booking category at AKV where the points are lower bc the rooms are not as large as regular units. It's a perk for owners that own there because they book right away.

Yes.
All of the AK Lodge and AK DVC rooms are deluxe. The DVC Villas at Jambo House started out as AK Lodge rooms, but we're renovated to be DVC Villas. They are still very nice, but the DVC Villas at Kidani Village are bigger and have a few more features (like an extra bathroom in the one and 2 bedroom villas). It takes less points to book the Jambo House units. Because of that, they are very popular and generally are booked by DVC Members who have AK as their home resort. Since DVC members can book earlier at their home resort, there are seldom value ones left for other members.

Thanks for the explanations, everybody :) So, they aren't really 'value' rooms, just smaller rooms that can be booked for fewer points. But they are in the same buildings, with the same decor, etc, but just too small to make accessible. That makes sense to me.

What is a value DVC room? I thought all the DVC were at deluxe resorts?

The values are at AKV-Jambo. The reason they're called "values" is that they're smaller because they're refurbished rooms from AKL. Except for the size difference (really not much and IMO not really noticeable), there's no difference between them and any other DVC room except maybe a little furniture rearrangement. I knew that there were no HA value studios, but I didn't know about 2 BRs. BTW, I did a split stay once between value and "regular" studios at AKV, specifically to see if I'd notice the size difference. No noticeable difference to me-I think values are a great point savings.
