Called today and the rep said no free DDP available for our 9/22/07 Poly stay. Our dates are NOT flexible.

Any chance I can call everyday to see if something opens up, or do you think I am just out of luck.

I currently have a room only ressie at the Poly. I would not consider changing resorts as I LOVE the Poly.

Bummed!

You never know, people cancel their trips every day but I wouldn't count on getting the Poly. If it were me, I'd just switch to another resort to make things easier...what about GF or WL? Then again I love getting a deal so I cannot resist the free dining.

Our first choice this year with free dining was POR, but we were told when we reserved (only a few days after it was announced) that EVERYTHING with free dining was booked except the FW cabins and I believe Saratoga springs. I booked the cabins, but was told I could call back to check if anything opened up. I tried several times, then gave up. No luck.

You can try, but the free DDP seems pretty popular.

I would check 45 days from your arrival day. Trip have to be paid by then and those who may have changed their minds or not paid, might be cancelled.

I've been checking Disney's website everyday to see whether AKL opens up. I noticed that All Star Sports was completely sold out for a day. A day or two later, both standard and preffered rooms were again available for the dining. You never know, so just keep trying!

Is this really possible with the free dining promo ending on June 24 or thereabouts? How could you make that work (book another resort with free dining and be able to switch? Book the Poly and add it on? I don't know how the rules work.)

I went to Disney World last year during the free dining promo, but booked my trip in the summer. I couldn't get free dining at all by then, but we did get a % off code that was almost the same savings.

I don't know if it would work but it's worth a try! :thumbsup2

Call every day, maybe twice a day, and check online even more than that. Heck, it's only available to book for another 10 days--what else did you have to do?:rotfl2:

I think the only way it might work (emphasis on the "might") is if you already have a reservation at a resort with free DDP and change to a different resort. I know people have been able to do that; whether they were able to do it after the time frame for booking free DDP, I don't know. But if you really want free DDP, it might be worth making a free DDP reservation at another resort, and keep trying to change it to Poly until that 45 day mark hits. Good luck!

I wonder how the people who are just now booking a "free dining" room are going to EAT (if they haven't already made ADRs).... It seems that the TS restaurants have almost NO availability (at least for the week of 8/26, that is..) Hopefully, new reservations will be able to get TS for their "free dining". It's kind of crazy..... They opened up value rooms by giving out free upgrades to SSR/OKW, but the poor people who get in on the free dining at a value resort may not be able to eat a TS dinner.....:upsidedow

I was thinking the same thing. In fact, I've started recommending that people who are considering booking a free dining trip call for ADR's first, to see if they can even get in anywhere they'd like to eat before they book the trip.

Of course, I think the answer is they'll have to use their TS credits for lunch instead of dinner. Not such a bad thing, especially when they're getting the DDP for free so shouldn't worry so much about getting the most for their money. We did a couple of lunches last year, and have several booked for this year, too.

OP: Still got my fingers crossed for the Poly for you.:)

So let's see if I understand this..... When they offer free dinning they only offer so many pkgs of it. It doesn't come automatical? Also when does it usually end in september (we are going next year in september)

Correct, only some of the rooms in the resorts have the free dining. Obviously, Values sell out the quickest because the rooms cost the least, then the Mods and finally the Deluxes. But there are some exclusions like popular resorts such as the Contemporary or Poly. I'm personally booked at the Grand Floridian, and I wouldn't have it any other way, so free dining was not an issue for me (plus I got a 5% discount due to some corporate discounts through AA Vacations).

In regards to 2008, like this year, there was no guarantee for free dining. It may happen next year or it may not. There is a lot of talk about the dining plan being revamped, whether it be variable tipping or no tips included, decrease in costs, increase in costs, etc, etc, etc...it all depends on which persons side you want to take. So the chance of free dining, in my opinion is going to be less for 2008, but in all honesty no one knows.

There has been lots of discussions about this on the resorts boards but sometimes there is only availability at the resort that you want if you book a longer stay. So people are booking 10 days on-line and then calling back a few days later to drop the days that they didn't really need from the res. I don't know what dates you need but I just put in 9/20 to 9/27 and the Poly with free dining was available on the website. If I put in 9/22 to 9/27 I could only get GF and the beach club as available.

Just me - OP -checking back in. I have been calling and checking the website every day and no luck. I think starting today I will call twice per day and hope for the best. If I don't get it, oh well! Can't say I didn't try.

I will let you know if pixie dust gets sprinkled on me!

Did you try checking the website for more days than you need so that you can book those dates and then call back to get them to drop the days that you don't really need? I did see availability on-line for the Poly from the 20th to the 27th.

Lady hlh,

Thanks for the tip...I never would have thought of it. I just got off the phone with Disney and booked the Poly with the free DDP! I arrive on 9/20/07and depart on 9/28/07.

I will call in a day or two and "modify" my ressie to arrive on 9/22/07 and still depart on 9/28/07.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks again,

Pat
