I am planning a birthday trip for me and my BFF, no kids! We are planning on Pop Century since this is an "ultra-budget" trip.

IF we get a room-only with the AP rate, we would save $380 over the "free" dining with 1-day tickets.

For 5 nights, I think we can eat less than $380 worth of food.

Here's my question:

Do adults ever order a kids meal for themselves? If it's not an acceptable practice, then we will probably order one adult meal and split it. I think the kids portions are much more suited for my appetite and I hate to waste food. I also hate to eat too much just so I am not wasting anything.

What do you all do?

At counter service places, it's not an issue.

But based on the actual food - I'd opt to split one adult meal between the two of you instead - the kid's food is kind of - um, ick? (from an adult stand point at least). How many chicken nuggets and mac and cheese can an adult eat (though I know some kids who'll eat it at every meal if you let them).

For a CS I would say no problem. For dinner I would never do this (just me)order 1 meal an split it at a Tb service. What I would do is order app's.
But I have never done this in Disney. I look fwd to dinner in Diz.
We usually on eat 1 TB a day. We split our cs for bk & din.

I left out a little info so let me elaborate a bit...

First, yes, I am referring to counter-service. Second, I am looking particularly at breakfast. Since we will not have a car and we are staying at Pop, we will eat a lot of breakfast at the food court. Eating in the room is an option, but only if we get a grocery delivery. We won't have a fridge and we are travelling with carryons only so we won't have room to bring our own food. I figured since the kids meals and the adult meals (breakfast anyways) are basically the same, it would be a better value for each of us to get our own kids meal for breakfast.

Oh, and I am one of those "kids" who would eat chicken nuggets at every meal if you let me:lmao:.

Thanks for the input:hug:.

CS that's no big deal . Like I said we do that for bk & lun so we can eat are dinner. Otherwise it's to much food for us.

Yes, that's no problem with CS meals! I'm with you; sometimes the adult portions are just too large.

It isnt a problem - I wouldnt know about TS places - because of so many on the gastric bypass journey I know this question has been asked before - but I dont remember the answers!!

I would also consider sharing 1 adult meal at breakfast at Pop - depending on what you want - you get more food and like you said, its a lot - so 1 adult meal split vs 2 kids meal - you'll be able to see what works for you once you get there - but I think you will very easily be able to eat for $380 - you may even consider throwing in some of those breakfast bars in your luggage and skip purchasing breakfasts altogether! Add your own tea bags and you can get free hot water! (or throw in some hot chocolate pkgs - again free hot water)

dont forget you can get free ice water at all the CS places as well - sometimes you do ask for a large glass of ice water (the water is from the soda machine making it filtered water! I take that and put it in the nalgene bottes that I bring - and you can also bring from home the crystal lite packets and save by not buying high priced sodas and juices!!)

you may even ask how to budget meals for WDW on the Budget board - a lot of those people have great suggestions and ideas!!

Siince you have an AP room rate, obviously one of you has an AP. Do you have the TiW/DDE card? It is good at POP Century.

Me too. And mark me down as totally puzzled why the mention of "flames". :sad1:

I wasn't sure if this was along the lines of reusing a mug or fibbing on a child's age.

Yes, I am an adult. No, I am not travelling with a child. Yes, I have the appetite of a child. I guess my thought is that if a 6 year old can polish off an adult meal by herself (I know because I've seen her do it!), I should be able to order a kid's meal because that is how much food I can eat. Yes, I am trying to save money, but I am also trying to be responsible and not overeat or throw away food. That is why we are leaning away from the dining plan. We either eat way more than we are hungry for or we end up throwing food away. We had 4 CS credits leftover last year after a 6 day trip. We had 13 snack credits on our last day too!

Thanks for all the input. Now that I know I am not the only one who thinks those adult meals are huge!

You want to do WHAT?! :scared1: Why do you think they're called "Kids Meals"?

Just kidding.;)

I'm not traveling with a child, either. Well, I'm meeting DD for a few days, but at 26 she's probably not going to be my easy excuse for my kid's meal. :rotfl: I order them frequently when there isn't a way to order a smaller portion, easily. (Especially at lunch.) If I can do an a la carte soup and salad, that works, otherwise, I hop to the kids menu. I lost 48 lbs in the last year...got to my goal several months ago and have stayed there...by portion control.

So choose whatever you like, as long as it isn't a buffet. I ask nicely and have yet to be turned down in or out of Disney. There are lots of us enjoying the smaller portions. :goodvibes

Hey, the part of 1900 Park Fare I'm most excited for is the corn dogs at the kid's buffet!

And if they don't have them, then I'm getting them at Casey's...
but I digress.

You're fine in what you're doing. Now, if you were an adult trying to use kid's table service credits on the dining plan to save money, then you'd have a problem.

But you're good. :thumbsup2

If the kids' meal didn't appeal to you, you might also try 2 side orders. I havent checked the menu at the POP, but sometimes for b'fast I just order a side of hash browns and toast, or hash browns, bacon and coffee.
I would also not let no fridge stop you from bringing a few booster goodies. You can always find room for a few granola bars!

If a Kids meal is enough for you, I wouldn't hesitate to order one.

something to keep in mind: Some of the appitizers at TS are quite large portions as well. I am a big eater and an order of wings from Kona cafe fills me up

Pack cereal and cereal bars for breakfast. You can buy milk/yogurt/banannas at the food court for very little. Will be cheaper than a kids breakfast and healthier.
Oatmeal was around $2.5 Hard boiled eggs less than $2.

The adult meals were large and the sandwiches are often already split in two.

The other thing to consider is splitting meals. They're usually large enough. If I go with my Mom, we do it all the time!!

I have purchased kids meals before or sometimes I will split a sandwich or ribs with one of my kids. Haven't done it at TS because we usually do CS but will be doing the DP this time. One of my kids is 15 and always gets the kids meal by choice.

At CS places DH and I get kids meals all the time and no one has ever said a word but we never do that at TS places
