No film developing onsite anymore

Disney discontinued film developing effective Jan. 3.

We used to enjoy getting our film developed at WDW because they did such a good job. However, on our last two trips (May & December 2004), the developing was not that good - pictures were developed backwards, color was way off, etc. We had already decided not to get our film developed at WDW any more.

Well, that certainly finalizes the debate about film developing! I was in on the thread about film speed and the x-rays at the airport. We will now just be bringing 400 speed film and hoping for the best when we have it developed at home!

I did read confirmations from the airlines, the TSA and the film companies that you should NEVER put film in your checked bags and you should ask to have 800 speed hand checked. Lower speeds should be fine UNLESS they are x-rayed more than 5 times because the effects are cumulative.

I probably would have paid the $13 per roll just for peace of mind! :D

That is a great link - thanks!

Does anybody know how long it takes for them to hand check film? I heard they have to swab the film for explosives then wait for the swabs to process? Anyone have the scoop on this?

...I didn't get a chance to go to Kodak Imageworks in Epcot on my MouseFest trip, so I don't know if they still do downloading and printing.

The Kodak Imageworks shop by JIYI is no longer there. It is now a Figment meet and greet area.

It only takes a few minutes. They don't swab every single roll in the bag, just a few to check for explosives, and the test doesn't take long.

I agree that with prices falling, it makes more sense to just buy another card. Depending on what type of card you need, 256 is well under $50 and even 512 is under $50 for some card types. Plus, its much easier to keep a tiny card safe in your camera case than to protect a CD as you go through the parks and travel home.
