In August we stayed in a one bedroom at SSR and had a dvd player in the living room. We are in a one bedroom again (the one-bedroom side of a two bedroom lock-out) and there is not a dvd player. I called and was told that only the two- and three- bedroom villas have dvd players. I told the cast member that in August our one bedroom had a dvd player. She said there have never been dvd players in the one bedrooms. When did they get rid of them? I find it odd that they take out the dvd player when a two bedroom lock-out is occupied as just a one bedroom.

They didn't. You called and got clueless. Go to the front desk, calling gets you the call center where their goal is to get you off the phone.

Someone may have moved it from the living room to the other bedroom. Just a guess though.

Just left SSR yesterday, we were in a studio and there was a DVD palyer.

If it was moved to another room by some guest. This is what happens when guest or members decide to move anything. They don't put things back and the new person thinks DVC made changes.

All studios should have a DVD player and the living room in 1,2, and 3 bedroom units should have one.

Although I know this is true, does it bother anyone else that when a guest picks up the phone in their villa and punches the button that says "front desk", they should expect that it's not really the front desk? Am I the only one who's so naive as to expect the REAL front desk?

It wouldn't be a problem if they were knowledgeable. It's unfortunate when, as in the OP's case, you get someone who is ill informed but insists that they are providing correct information.

It bugs many people. You are not the only one who thinks it should be the real front desk. I also think that when I call a resort from home, and they tell me flat out point blank that they are AT the resort, that they shouldn't be lying. But they are. And pressing the Front Desk button doesn't get you the front desk. No matter how we feel about it.

Watched Frozen on the supplied DVD player with my best friend in November in the living room of a one bedroom at SSR. :)

Who do you think answers the DVC MS calls, some say that certain DVC functions are outsourced. If a call center either Disney owned or contracted out saves Disney money, you can bet that your calls will be processed there.

Business is all about saving money to make more money. An example is online check in. It isn't in place to benefit the guest, it's to save Disney money.
