A major perk of owning dvc is the free Disney and resort parking, it was a major consideration for me when buying. Without that perk I may not have purchased to be honest as I exclusively drive my car to Disney

fast forward to the future

magical express no longer exists

mears connect is stupid expensive. Express is $250

what would happen to dvc if Disney removed the parking perk? unimaginable right?! I sure hope this is just a nightmare hypothetical but it could happen too.

food costs more, tickets cost more, our dvc perks are stripped bare. those who fly are faced with crazy high airfare exasperated by no magical express thereby forcing Disney guests to opt for a rental car, mears connect or Uber all which are even more expensive than ever. The cost to go to Disney is crazy right now and I maintain my costs by driving

dvc getting rid of parking though would be the final straw for me I think

We already pay for the parking which is why they haven't already started charging. The common area expense of keeping up the lots are included in our dues.
Could that ever change?
I just keep watchI get Disney make All these changes, a fee here, an increase there and it gets me wondering. Where does it stop

No, it cannot change. As @KAT4DISNEY wrote, we already pay for parking in our dues. We've always paid for parking in our dues.

We've also always paid for the pool, Mouse Cleaning, security, the lobby, all common areas, etc.

The point is, Disney cannot charge us a second time for something that they already are charging us for.

Didn’t they take away cleaning and call it necessary due to covid?
As I recall, Disney added cleaning because of COVID. They did make other adjustments due to COVID, but most of those services have come back.

What you have to keep in mind is that Disney does not do things for free. Anything they add gets rolled into DVC dues. Similarly, anything they take away gets removed from DVC dues.

Timeshare laws in Florida are fairly strict. They are intended to encourage you to buy timeshares in Florida. The State of Florida loves timeshares. They don't, for example, have to pay for schools for those buying timeshare properties. Therefore, the State of Florida wants to do what it can to protect timeshare buyers to encourage the inflow of tax revenue from timeshares. This means making sure that annual Maintenance Fees reflect the true cost of operating the timeshare.

The fees that you pay as part of your DVC Maintenance Fee are pretty close to cost. Disney makes some profit on, for example, administration, but they cannot price gouge you.

What Disney tried to do recently (and members called them on it) is alter point charts to squeeze points from DVC members by charging a "lock-off premium". The idea was that these extra points (in the form of unbooked rooms) would go to Disney, who then could rent them to cash paying Guests. Again, DVC members caught this and called Disney on it. Disney later issued revised point charts to correct this.

I really hope so. There is only so much I can take of the cost cutting. I rely on parking

brightline is years away if it ever even shows. Bright line has a lot of problems financially

relatively unprofitable in the Miami market, lost the virgin deal due to covid, laid off their entire staff and now universal are blocking the train to Disney.

if it does go forward, looking years out

How in the world did people figure this out?

Disney is throwing a lot of resources into getting the train from MCO. I think this is one of the areas that will actually improve over time.

Disney and especially Brightline have both made it perfectly clear that the train is intended for long haul travel and will not be a suitable way to get from the airport to a WDW Hotel.

One thing Disney could do is take away free parking at the parks for on site guests.

Shhhhhh. Don't give them ideas.

Seriously though I wouldn't think that's too likely as it benefits them to allow. If they charged then more people would use resort transportation and they would need to provide more buses and boats or get lots of complaints.

As have I mentioned before, the resort parking lots for the DVC resorts are deemed to be common elements in the POS documents, and members pay for the upkeep of the common elements as part of annual dues. Under Florida condominium law, the owners cannot be charged any fees for use of any common element unless the right to charge fees for the specific common elements is expressly reserved in the POS documents. Nowhere in any such POS documents for any resorts does Disney reserve any right to charge fees for the common elements. Thus, DVC's charging fees to park at the resorts, use the pools, use the tennis courts, etc. would be a violation of the law.

As noted above parking at the theme park parking lots is a different issue. That is perk for all guests (not just DVC) staying on site. Disney could decide to charge resort guests, including DVC, to pay for parking at the parks.

That's only a problem if they stop providing transportation to the parks, which they won't. The roadway infrastructure would collapse in about ten minutes.
