i read on disney.com that Dumbo will be closed 1/10-2/12-05 - of course, during our first family vacation. I've been really going on & on how this will be our first family ride at MK, reading the book, showing clips in a video, etc to our 2+ y.o. DD. teaches me a lesson...you never know when rides will shut down even on the spot..at least, i got a warning. i'm bummed.

I was really bummed that It's a Small World was closed during our visit this summer. My 10 y.o. grandson was looking forward to riding it ... it was his favorite ride when his maternal grandmom took him when he was 5.

He came back from that trip singing the song ... got his 4 y.o. cousin singing it too ... and I think got my obsession with Disney started :)

OH MY--This isn't good for me either. It is one of the most popular rides. We have never been and other that meeting the princesses...my daughter wanted to ride Dumbo...She will be so, sad.

Bummer!! Thankfully we are there till the 19th so we can still go on it!!
D.D.

What a bummer for you. Dumbo is a tradtion with our family, DD 1st ride when she was 9 months old and evey time since then we always do it 1st. This next trip is her little sisters 1st time to WDW (she will be 7 months) and DD wants to take her on Dumbo 1st.

We are going Feb 25 to March 4, so I hope it finishes on time.

I am also kind of hopeing for a early opening of small world, but I am not holding my breath.

The 13th is our last day, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Dumbo's rehab stays on schedule. If it reopens on time we should be able to catch it before heading home!

We will also be missing out on Dumbo! My sons will be very upset. I think it's awful that both Dumbo and Small World will be closed at the same time. I guess Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan are going to be extra crowded!

hmm. I hadn't even thought of the impact on other fantasyland rides. Good thing pooh and peter pan have fastpass

If you want to ride a ride like Dumbo, check out Triceratop Spin in AK. It's basically the same ride only in Dinosaurs in stead of Dumbo. Or Aladdin's Carpets. Hope you have fun anyway!!

Does anyone know when Small World opens back up? I've heard the spring, but does that mean March or May. I know they are doing the May 5th big doo dah, so I'm sure it will be open then, but I'm hoping for sooner.

Us too, first time for us and the kiddos (2 & 4). We are driving and arriving on the 9th. We may have to rush a little and try and get there before MK closes. It will mean "wasting" a ticket but these are desperate times.

Bummer :(. I did notice that Dumbo needed some sprucing up when I was there in August. The IASW re-hab was way overdue!

It's funny because DH & I loved the kids on this ride when they were younger. The last time we went (in 2000), we went on it one morning, but they weren't thrilled about it (they were 5, 7, and 8 - all boys). Now DH just found out he's going to Orlando for business in January and we decided to take our now 9 year old along since his older brothers remember it more and were tall enough to ride all the rides, but there were several he was too small for then. When I read the rehab schedule, I said "Oh, no, guess what ride will be closed when we get there?" His first guess, with a devastated look, was Rock N Rollercoaster (the main thing he wants to do). When I told him Dumbo he was like "Yesss, good, now I don't have to go on that one!"

That is funny. I don't think my husband is as bummed as I am because he knows I can't get pictures of him on the ride. I can see where young boys would probably not be thrilled about it. Who knows, my girls probably won't be as disappointed because they won't know what they are missing. I guess this means we'll have to go back, darn ;)

I really think Disney in general is more of a girl thing - at least during the pre-teen/teen age (or until they have kids of their own). I remember when we went when my oldest was 6 and we did the Crystal Palace lunch with Pooh/Tigger, etc. He did a journal for school (he was in first grade) and when we got to that day I told him to write that we had lunch with Tigger and Pooh. He gave me a scornful look and said "I am NOT writing that I had lunch with Pooh!" I'm glad we went 3 times while they were little when they enjoyed it, and we enjoyed them enjoying it! These days if it's not the biggest, fastest rollercoaster in the world, why bother?

Can i just add that DH is overjoyed that on our trip he doesn't have to do Dumbo or IASW. He actually cheered. These are his 2 least favourite things to do in Disney, because of "annoying" music and ridiculous lines (I kind of agree about the line). Needless to say I do not agree with him and my kids are bummed about it. That man needs pixie dust blown all over him till he sneezes!!
Much love,
Claire
