Just wanted to vent a little. We made the unfortunate decision to book our first trip to DL for June 17-25 months ago before all this POTC premiere stuff was announced. For a while we were upset about not seeing Fantasmic at all that week and just missing the POTC opening, but we got over it. I was REALLY looking forward to doing the Discover the Magic Tour our 1st day there. Guess what???? After calling two days ago and being told we were two days too early to book it, my DH called back today only to find out all tours are "inactive" that entire week. Major bummer for us!

Anybody have any other great ideas or things we need to be sure to do (that will be open for sure!) while we are at DL? I'm thinking with an entire week we should pretty much be able to fit everything in.

Real sorry to hear that. We cancelled our trip party due to the POTC fiasco,
fantasmic and the tours..and of course work.

I hope you have a great time when you are there.

We were there during the origional POTC premiere and it was actually pretty neat. They opened the parks VERY early and since we are early risers there was a pretty empty park for anyone who wanted to enjoy it. We all got souvineer buttons and posters and I took pictures of the whole setup from one of the boat rides. They did have areas blocked with traffic in the parks rerouted but it wasn't bad. We had seen Fantasmic at WDW and hated it, so there was not love lost at not having the show that week.

If you saw the WDW Fantasmic! and hated it, you really should still give the DL Fantamic! a fair chance sometime... it was the original, it is a much better show IMO and DL F! really has many more fans on many many fan boards (and others I have talked to) than the WDW F! does... of the Guests who have seen both of them.

The WDW F! has some good elements,
but the DL F! is just amazing. :wizard:

Is it the same deal where you need to arrive hours early to ge a seat at DL? That kind of spoiled the whole thing.

The show is great, but the crowds are reality. Depending where you want to sit will dictate how early you need to get there to have a spot. You also can see if you can get ressie's for PS, no crowds to bother you there.

Jack pirate:

Tell me about the PS for seating. I'm not familiar with this.

You can make ressie's 30 days in advance for either the balcony(dessert buffet) or the riverfront (boxed dessert). There are 22 seats on the balcony. You sit above NOS and the rest of humanity. The cost I think is arround $59.00/pp. Search the fantasmic buffet threads they can do a better job than I. Much fun to watch from above, away from everyone.

What about the "do-not-miss" things I asked about earlier since we won't be able to do POTC, Fantasmic!, or take a tour the week we are there?

what does POTC mean and stand for?

thanks BJD, something so simple I didn't get. :thumbsup2

I am sure that since you have planned this vacation so far in advance, you probably have a vacation planning guide, such as Birnbaum's or some such (I forget the name of the one I have at home).

I would definately hit all of the rides at DL that we don't have in FL: Alice, Mr. Toad, Matterhorn, Pinoc, Indy, etc. Definately ride Space Mtn! Take the monorail ride - the monorail is smaller in DL and the windows open! DCA is a great park - it reminds me of the times I used to spend on the boardwalk down the Jersey shore. The ride over there are great too!

Enjoy your trip! We are going in late August.

Yes, I bought the Birnbaums book months ago. We're all looking forward to the different rides, especially Indy, Alice, Mr. Toad, and Pinnochio. With seven days to cover two parks we will have probably seen & rode everything multiple times.

I looked into adding more dates to our trip just to see Fantasmic and do the "Discover the Magic" tour, but the airfare is now over $225 more per person (plus the extra $100 to change the ticket in the first place). No way am I going to spend $1000 more just to see a few additional things. I wish we could just get a full refund of the trip and airfare and use part of that $3000 to upgrade our room at Christmas at WDW.

Make sure you watch the electrical parade. It has been almost two years and my daughter still talks about it.

You may be happy to know, that who ever told you that all tours are inactive that week, (we will be there the same week) was incorrect. They are still booking tours that week, but only on certain days. I do believe that Tues and Wed are the days they are NOT booking tours. Vacation planning told me this evening as that I could book a tour Friday the 23rd and there was only 1 tour time that day instead of 4 different times. Each tour is being offered, but instead of multiple times only once per day per tour. Try calling back and ask to speak with someone in Guest Services or Vacation planning. Good luck!

Since it sounds like that the airfare was pretty cheap, maybe it would be best just to take your loses and avoid a disappointing time at the parks. Sometimes it is actually better to retreat.
