No discount with AAA?

Ok, I'm confused...

I tried booking RPH for 2 nights through AAA and I'm getting the same rate as if I went directly onto the Loews and/or Universal site. I'm looking for only 2 nights (8/14 - 8/16).

I called AAA (the 866 number posted on their website) and they said that they typically don't see AAA discounts on the Universal hotels. Say what? She said that if there are discounts, it's generally on a package that Universal is offering such as 5/3 package).

I thought people were able to often get a AAA discount? I'm confused!

I remembered some of the great advice I've read on these boards, which is to call Loew's when in doubt. So, I called and sure enough, they do have a AAA discount. I'll add my dates to the "Date and Rate" thread.

Thanks anyway for all of the good answers that I know I would have gotten!

I am glad you were able to get the discount, as normally the AAA discount applies regardless of the length of stay - although there are probably "busy" season dates where you may not be able to get the discount.

I have seen people on here who have booked an obstructed room view with AAA and always wondered how they did it. Would you call Loews or the hotel direct to do that?

Yes. Obstructed views are books through Loews directly.

Only a number of rooms at the hotels are set aside for the AAA discounts.

If none were available when you booked, try calling back a few times before your trip.

Could be some rooms might open up that qualify for the AAA discount.

I called to book a room the week after Christmas '09, and I was told there were not any AAA discounts typically given during this time. The rep that I spoke to did say that some discounts not typically given at Easter were opening up, and that they might offer some later in the year for the time I wanted. I thought it was odd that we just stayed the week of Christmas '08 and were able to get a discount. I was surprised that the week after is typically busier.

We will be there Aug. 13-15 and booked through AAA in Oct. and we got a discount on the two rooms we have. We booked just the room, not a package. We go through a AAA travel agent to do our Universal/Disney trips. I know that AAA only has a specific number of rooms at the hotels so their alloted rooms for discounts may be gone. We are at the HRH.
