No Buy May! Welcome old and new savers!

Good grief, I only had to be good for a week. I managed to eat out like 4 times and booked a cruise. I'm going to pretend like this didn't happen, you didn't see me here.....

First day and I slipped a little :headache:

Groceries came in at 42.50ish, so not a lot over. Gas was exactly $20. I also forgot about my bath stuff, I was out of foundation, contact solution etc to the tune of $18 (I need to find my receipt for an exact amount).

The part I slipped on was going into the hello kitty store. Just $6.01 total, it could have been much much worse with a 3 yr old in tow! lol

I stayed away from the vending machines today! Brought my breakfast, lunch, snack and drinks from home. :woohoo:

May 1: $0
May 2: $39.78 Groceries
May 3: $0
May 4: $0
May 5: $0 (work got us dinner for Nurses Day!)

May 7: $63.79, Groceries ($30.28 in store coupons), $10, mailing letter and package, $97, that is not actually spent yet, but will be. I ordered a cake to be delivered to our illuminations cruise!! So, I counted it for today!
May 8: $0
May 9: $0
May 10: $0
May 11: $200, nieces college graduation; $21.38, lunch out with daughter and grandsons; $29.94 Light spinner toys; $32, groc and underwear at Wallyworld. My gosh that seems like a LOT of money, when you are trying NOT to spend!
May 12: $0
May 13: $$0, posting early as I have to sleep, and go right back to work. Don't have time to spend $$ today!
May 14: My gosh, I got a 15 min break at work (12 hour shifts), deciding to look at the budget board at 3 a.m., so VERY NOT a good idea. Bought 4 pair of prepaire croc flip flops, $14.99 pair, $7.45, $130, $34.78.
May 15:: $0
May 16: $0
May 17: Should have been a $0 day, but found the fantastic kids book sale and ordered 20 books x $2 + $0 shipping. Snail mail, 5 - 11 days for delivery, slightly used books, but great for us!! $41.85. Amended, Grandson #2, got very ill, co-pay, med, pizza dinner $48.85.
May 18: $0
May 19: $0
May 20: $0
May 21: $18.74 TRU ( -$15.00 reward $$, so $3.74), $107.94 Groceries, ($18.98 coupons), $61.87 for 3 wallets, 2 for gifts, one for myself. Grrr, forgot my prescriptions, $196.00 (with insurance!).
May 22: $0 off to work soon, no time to spend $$ today, thank goodness!!
May 23: $0! I am realizing something! I used to always stop on the way to work to get something for dinner at work. I would occasionally bring leftovers, or a frozen meal, but writing down everything and wanting to change habits, has really made a difference in this category!! Thanks everyone!!
May 24: $140.19, ponchos, hair clips, plane snacks, clippers to clip the golden doodle (cheaper than 1 grooming session), flavored coffee for vacation (a treat we only get on vacation, but a pot is cheaper than buying one cup of good coffee!), sunscreen, cold meds (yeppers, I have an icky nose and a scratchy throat), rotisserie chicken for dinner (have plenty for enchiladas or burritos tomorrow) and misc. junk that I thought we should bring along with us. Also got Grandson 1 a Leapster brand case/book bag type, Leapster holder and Grandson 2 a Toy Story activity book. Hopefully they will stay busy on the plane and at the airport that way, with the other stuff we have!!
May 25: $0
May 26: $27.58 Wally World, potluck/1st aide kit/sunglasses/Quart sized zip locks, hmmm can't remember what else right now, I worked all night, lol.
May 27: $0
May 28: $58.61 groceries. They also had a marked down section with Pepcid AC, Immodium and a couple of other good to have things for vacation, for only $1 each! Looked at the regular section and saved about $25 by buying the older style packages!!
May 29: $0
May 30: Was going to be a $0 day, but I am way too tired and excited to cook dinner, so we may go out for linner (lunch/dinner). See you all next month as we weill be gone for 11 days at WDW!!!:cool1::yay::woohoo: I can't believe it's here!
19/13 $0 days!!

No worries neatokimmo. The first month is the eye opener month- documenting everything makes you realize what you spend your money on, and then hopefully the 2nd month you start making adjustments to your spending.

This was my first month- I spent about $100 a month less on groceries and cleaning supplies in May than I did in April. In May, I did a groceries only goal, but I think in June I need to combine them.

For me, how many 0 spend days I had was less important than how much I spent overall, but trying to get 0 spend days will keep you out of the store.

I invited my sister & family to come to my parents & my house for a "refrig buffet" which is basically putting out all the left overs and odds and ends onto the counter and everybody creates their own meal. This is a family tradition meal dating back to my childhood. It always means a no spend day because part of the deal is you have to use what is here and nothing is purchased to make the meal. And it has the added benefit of getting the refrig & cupboard cleaned out to start the summer season.

Has anyone started the No-Buy June list yet? I am interested in getting on board with this, hopefully it will help me save for our Disney trips later this year. :cool1:

Is there somewhere I could read up on directions or something? TIA!:thumbsup2

And so ends another month. I came out below my updated budget ($967), and found about $25, so I'm happy. May take a break in June, but I'll be around for the first part... I feel that I'm back in control of my spending and my concerns (ie, kids' give-mes) have gotten so much better. Good luck to all!

UGH-I HATE buying printer ink. It is just so darn expensive! I've been putting it off for a few weeks now but we were out of every color and had no more paper. I wanted to print coupons to go shopping today...thus the ink. On 5/28, 5/29, and 5/31 I or DH made groceries/household goods purchases but I am counting those purchases toward the June budget, so I will not post those here!
