No Buy January 2010

Oh, I forgot: 1/01--0$ (going to dh's brother's house later, so may spend a little on something to drink but dh has some money left from his budgeted work money from last week--so technically Dec money!)

1/1 = $75.88
$50.88 Lowe's
$25 Chili's but I used cash I had in my purse that's been there for a few months so not sure if it counts but I'm counting it anyway for now.

1/2 = $0 going no where and doing nothing today

Happy New Year everybody!

1-1-10 $0.00

Working out my budget. WIll come back and post it. Food $$ for me is completely out of control. I don't understand where it all goes. :confused3

This is what I am working on.

1/01/10 so far: $2.00 drink after work (2a.m.), $1.50 bus fare, $5.06 latte and rugalach, $16.94 1 season of an old tv show on dvd plus a book and $6.58 pico de gallo and a bottled drink from grocery

Jan. 1: $0

Groceries: $100
Eat out: 0/2 ($0)
Misc.: $0
Total: $0

Spent $11.75 on dinner tonight. We are going out to eat once a month. I guess doing on the very first of the month wasn't the smartest thing to do :lmao:

Jan 1st: $2.95 on McDonald's; $19.97 for I-Max movie and gas money to my girlfriend.

Not too bad for an entire day of fun for my family. We have a membership to our local science museum and went with friends. We packed a lunch and snacks and drinks. Just had McDonald f.f. for a snack.

My budget for this month:

Groceries/Household $300 ($190.73 left)
Lunches Out at Work $40 (we go out on Friday each week)
Entertainment/Eating Out $125
Gas (me) $250 (I drive 2 hours a day for work)
Gas (DH) $100
Clothes $25 ($13.25 left)
DS's birthday present $55

The grocery total and clothing total is showing I spent money because I actually shopped on 12/31 using the money for this month. I hope that is not considered "cheating", but I did not want to go out today.

1/10 $0 days

Jan. 1: $0

I'm in until the 23rd. DH and I are going to New Orleans for 5 days for our anniversary from the 23rd to the 27th. I'll bring $100 for misc spending, but I will spend more if I want to since this maybe a once in a lifetime trip(cash only though, no more cc debt!) My goals for this month: $320 for both gas for my car and spending, 15 no spend days until the 23rd (not including gas). Ok, so I spent $10 on a used video game today for DS and got him a pretzel at the mall so:
Jan 1: $13

I'm excited to have found this thread! I SO need to get my spending in check!! I own a business and tend to meld the business & personal accounts and then it becomes an accounting nightmare at the end of the year!!

My goal this year is to seperate the 2 and see what I am actually spending :confused3

At least being aware will make a big difference!!

Happy New Year everybody!

1-1-10 $0.00

Working out my budget. WIll come back and post it. Food $$ for me is completely out of control. I don't understand where it all goes. :confused3

This is what I am working on.

I completely agree - the grocery store just seems to literally vaccuum money out of my wallet!!

I lurked a bit on this thread last month, and I want to try in January! We have GOT to figure out where our money is going. I used to keep meticulous records with Quicken...before the third baby came and my master's degree classes started, at least. I just don't have time now!! I might have to try out Mint.com, since several of you mentioned it.

My goals for the month:
- $600 for groceries/diapers/etc.
-$50 for our (for this month, at least) monthly date night/after-Christmas gathering with friends. We're hitting a fairly expensive restaurant, but one of my students' moms was wonderful enough to organize a group Christmas gift from my class, and I have a Visa gift card now that should cover the rest of it. Our group only does this once a year, so I really look forward to it!
-15 $0 days
- $400 extra paid towards our credit card debt. We're not in so far we can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we're well farther in debt than I can ever remember us being. My goal is to get it paid off before our Disney trip in June. Of course, this will depend on the damage from the mechanic when he checks out our van on Tuesday...

Gas is hard for us to budget because my father-in-law also drives our cars quite a bit while he watches our kids M-Thurs. I'm not complaining - it's an amazing child-care arrangement. But it's much harder to budget because I'm not willing to tell him to stop driving around town while the older two kids are in school! So I'm trying to stick to things I have complete control over.

So far...1 $0 day down, 14 to go!

Here's to a frugal January, everyone! :thumbsup2

I hope you enjoy it here! Do you know what you're doing yet?

ssdeverell Since you are essentially setting up your own rules for this, if you don't consider spending this month's money yesterday as cheating, then it's not!

I spent $55 at the supermarket yesterday but don't want to list it with this month. My reasoning is that I was already a little over for last month anyways, and want a fresh start for this month! :rotfl:

The IMaxx show at the aquarium looks good and we're staying close by so we may do that. Any suggestions?

Well, went to the party at my bil's last night and we didn't spend a dime! so 1/01 stayed at $0
