we just returned from a week long trip with every day in the parks. We carried no bags at all, and even though DH had his wallet in his cargo pocket with debit card and our IDs, we never needed either. We used magic band for everything. We did use our credit card for a taxie from our resort to dinner when our Uber bailed on us but nothing in the park. Not going through the bag check was great. We did get selected for metal detectors pretty frequently but it was very quick. We saw lines for bag checks at the monorail resorts really back up. They were being much more thourough than I have ever seen. They had a dad with two young babies completely unpack his very well organized diaper back pack and were even shaking out diapers and clothes. At the IGW everyone was sent through the metal detector. We saw more sherif department people in full uniform than past trips. We saw one stop a WDW CM and check his ID. We felt as safe as always. Just sharing some observations.

That is interesting! Considering recent events I'm sure they are on high alert. We have not managed to go bagless. My pockets would be stuffed!

Yes, our park clothes are always cargo pants that can roll into shorts, as well as those outdoors-y fishing shirts with a million pockets. :) Makes security SO much faster!

What did you do when it rained? Just charge a poncho to your magic bands? Seem unlikely to go a whole week in Orlando without getting some rain.

Congrats on being able to do that! We always had a backpack, and kept everything in there... my husband doesn't tan, he just turns various shades of red, so we always had to have sunscreen and such. lol Wallets, cameras, etc. all fit in the backpack, too.

I was there May 7-12 and we had not one drop of rain!

I wish we could go bagless, but unfortunately, it's completely impossible when you have a toddler in diapers. We packed as lightly as we could though. We never experienced our whole bag being taken apart or anything even removed from the bag during bag check!

You should never count on being able to use your Magic Band for everything. The system does go down from time to time and they become completely useless! We also had one trip where we checked in at the hotel and went directly to a park. Went to charge a bottle of soda to the room and it said we had already reached our limit and could charge no more! Had to go to guest services to get it straightened out. But luckily had cash to pay for the drink on the way!

Add me to the list of people who have had the computer go down and had to pay cash for what I wanted. Throwing a $20 into your pockets is always a good idea.

I could never go bagless though. To many things I have to have with me (meds and such) and having all of that stuff in my pockets, well, the idea makes my skin crawl. I've learned to make the whole bag check work for me too. When I go with my nephew he is bagless, and he just heads to a ride that I don't want to go on (mission space, rock n rollercoaster) while I get my bag checked. Usually I have time to stop for a coffee and relax a bit while he is having fun. Or else I just shop.:)

I don't know how people go bagless. Don't you need sunscreen? A Poncho? Meds? I'd feel so lost without something..I have 2 littles though..but I think I'd still want something to atleast carry sunscreen. I'm sure it's so much easier though. I'm happy you had a great time!

Yeah basically. We lucked out tremendously and had it rain only twice while we were there. Once was at the end of the first day, so the 2nd trip down Splash was extra splashy, and then we got a big bag of cotton candy for free from one of the street vendors desperately trying to close up shop for the storm. And then the second day, it decided to rain conveniently when my DD was too hot and needed a slushy break anyway so we stood under the PeopleMover bridge and ate food. We pretty much only needed the ponchos for 10 minutes.

And all these outdoors-y clothes are super-fast-drying fabric anyway! Just need some ziplocs for phones and cameras and wallets...

We'll bring the ponchos back with us on future trips though - they take up almost no room so easy to fold into a thigh pocket in the cargo pants. :)

I had a backpack that my mom INSISTED I needed - like she would call me and ask if I was bringing it. Meanwhile all I had to carry that didn't fit in my pants already was my refill mug and I thought it would be useful to pour beverages INTO and create less waste but turns out it was not as useful and actually quite annoying! I hope to go bagless next time.

I really like the sunscreen lotion sticks that spread on; they come in small containers that can fit in a fishing shirt pocket so technically I can carry that too!

It worked for us, I'm sure it would not for everyone. As I said, DH had his billfold in his pocket, we just never needed it. We had cargo pockets and I had a runners belt. We had a Tiny medican holder and we had those tiny individual sun screen packs. We had only one very short shower one afternoon while we were on an indoor ride. Had tha forecast been for more rain we would have stuck a poncho in a pocket. I packed a cross body bag in my suitcase in case I didn't like bagless but never wanted it.

I aspire to this! Someday when the kids are older ... When we did date night for evening EMH, we did manage to go bagless - it was SO nice. Only issue is my *** phone is a little too big to fit easily in a pocket, other than cargo pants/shorts.

We have 2 littles, we do sunscreen before leaving the room, ponchos go in the bottom of the stroller, and everything else (small snack packs of trail mix or cheerios, extra outfit for the baby + ziploc bags, small cc+ID billfold with a $20) goes into a 12"x12" clear stadium bag. You still have to go through bag check, but it is SO much faster. I have even had the security guys hold the bag up and shout, "THIS is what I'm talking about! Pack light and bring a bag like this and you'll go through in no time!" :cool1: It cracks me up - at home, if we go to the playground or to the diner, DH is in charge of packing stuff and he always fills his big backpack. I have a Disney parks bag packing list and we take 1 clear bag and hook the diaper clutch to the stroller.

For those who need sunscreen, you can get "to-go" packets of sunscreen from amazon. Then you don't need a whole bottle. One or two should be enough for the whole day. I found that one was good for the whole family at once, and used the second for reapplication.

I did not know this! Thanks :)

You got very lucky with the runner's belt, I've worn them and had to shimmy out of mine and go through bag check, the no bag check guard said it was considered a bag even though mine does seriously just look like a belt.https://www.amazon.com/Eazymate-Fas...4473&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=running+belt&psc=1 I, too, go bagless (unless I'm wearing a sundress, no pockets) but always carry a little cash. First, I just don't like charging back to my room and second every single trip I've taken there has been at least one time when someone in front of me couldn't charge to their MB. Pain in the rumpkus if you just want something small.

We haven't gone bagless yet, but we have moved to very small crossbody bags. Security takes all of about 15 seconds to look thru - all that can really fit is a phone, chap stick and a very small (think change purse) wallet. It's mainly so that we have our phones if we need them, and this is just the vessel to carry them in.
