no availability for 12/19-12/26

I'm a brand new member and had no idea we'd be basically shut out of BLT for December (even the week of Jan 4 had no availability). :confused3 We're going the week of Jan 17th as a result.

That's why I continue to post that it's important to buy where you love to stay and book at 11 months. As the membership continues to grow, getting your favorite resort at certain times will get even more difficult.

We just booked our BLT reservations within the last 2 weeks for 11/29 through 12/9/2009 at BLT. We are in a 1 Bedroom MK view for 11/29 and a LV studio for 11/29 through 12/9/2009.

We told our guide we were only going to buy if we could get into BLT for our original dates of travel. We were booked at Contemporary in a MK view. He called member services and got us a pending reservation and we were all set. Hopefully everyone's WL will come through. We felt very lucky to get our reservations this late in the year!

Your guide wanted to make that sale. I bet if you call next year for a similar reservation and are this close to the date of the reservation you may not be so lucky. Your guide will have "his hand tied".

I never said that SSR was not accetaple to stay at. I have stayed there many times. We were simply just looking to try somewhere different. I also never said they were not good enough for me-I own at SSR for goodness sakes. We were just looking for something new for Christmas.

Thanks to all who have been helpful to me. I do appreciate it.

Folks, this thread has been heavily edited for assorted arguments, name calling, etc. As you all know, this is against DIS Posting Guidelines. We have to keep in mind there are many points of view presented here, and we may not agree with all of them. You cannot, however, take it to task with arguments.

I would like to keep this open for further discussion, but any further problems will result in infraction points being awarded.

Thanks everyone..

I am glad to hear that SSR is actually OK with you :). I personally think it's a lovely resort. I guess that's the problem with the written word is that sometimes readers don't always really understand what writers are trying to say. I am actually sympathetic to people being on the waitlist. I have been on the WL more than once myself and sometimes they come through and sometimes they do not. Part of the fun for me is trying all the DVC resorts and I am on the WL for BLT as I write. For NYE in a MK view, no less! I'm not holding my breath :rotfl:.

I think you *might* have a good chance at the WL around Christmas if you are flexible: AKV either resort or BWV pool view would probably be the likest to come through. WL, BCV and BLT not so much. A LOT of people make reservations for Christmas or NYE and then end up needing to cancel them for one reason or another.

FYI: We called the first day reservations opened for BLT (we own at BLT, and got through at about noon) and could not get a Magic Kingdom view for December 20th, although we did get it for December 21st.

We waitlisted and assumed that wait list would fill when more rooms were declared, however, so far the waitlist has not come through. A different thread indicated more rooms were declared in April, but the rooms look like they are being declared from the bottom up, except for the Grand Villa floors.

Well next year we won't be relying on our guide to make a pending reservation for us. We'll be able to book at BLT, at our 11 month home resort window. Just like we always booked our regular reservations as far out as we can.

This year was a different circumstance because we bought into DVC in June but had our regular reservations made in October in 2008 for November/December of 2009. He helped us out and we are so thankful he did!:dance3::banana:

Few members realize that DVD has the power to dip into the breakage room inventory to make a sale. They will also pull rooms back from CRO.

I originally had three reservations for a 2BR at each of our home resorts which I booked at 9:15 on January 27 for 12/17-1/1. I then waitlisted for a THV shortly after they started taking reservations for them - Feb or Mar. Then at 7 months went on waitlist for AKV. Then one member of the original group decided that that week was too busy for her 7 yo son to be able to do everything he wants to do and she would rather go in September. Then second person decided Sept is better also. Now the question- which one do I cancel to free up the points - hopefully some DISer got the 2 BR at BCV I gave up. I will be freeing up one of the other ones also but closer to the 31 day point unless my WL for the THV comes through first. If it doesn't come through I would rather be at OKW with 6 than at SSR. Oh yes that is because the other son and his family decided they would rather come see us at our Florida winter home some time when we can go to Disney that is not so busy. There may be others in my situation - plan the big family trip and have some or most of them back out - so there may still be hope for WLs coming through for Christmas week. At least this time I won't have points go into holding like I did one other year. Good luck to all who are waiting.

While that is true, in this case it is much more likely that the guide arranged for developer inventory to be transferred into member inventory for that particular member.

Breakage inventory is unreserved member (points) inventory that is 60 days or closer to the current date. Member's dates are more than 60 days away, so it wasn't breakage inventory pulled back.

DVC doesn't send points inventory to CRO unless a member uses points for one of the non-DVC, non-World Passport "Collections". It is unlikely that DVC sent BLT points inventory to CRO since BLT isn't even open yet and it is also unlikely that many BLT members are using their BLT points for non-DVC, non RCI options. Possible, but not very probable.

The BLT space that CRO is currently offering is almost certainly mostly developer inventory.

Hi Bayknox. I've had the wait list come through for me many times. Never give up! :teeth:

You could very well have the reservation you are hoping for. My home resort is OKW and I love it, but do really enjoy staying at other places too, so I know what you mean.

It's nice to try them all, isn't it? ::yes:: We've come to prefer some over the others, of course but that is to be expected.

As an aside, I have great luck with reservations overall. I cannot tell you how many times I've called on the spur of the moment and gotten reservations for a very short time out.

I even managed to get a Grand Villa this year (called in JUNE for one in AUGUST)! So yes, it does happen.

Keep your fingers crossed and good luck to you! ::yes::

Thank you DVC OKW96 for your kind words of encouragement! That was very sweet of you. Hopefully I will have some of your luck and pixie dus!:):)
