I just called to make a ressie. Matt explained there wasn't anything unavail and that I could waitlist. I defferred (I am not a gambler with my points).
Why is it that I can book the same unavailble room as a PH? Do they accept cash now before we can use our DVC? Just wondering the difference. Any info apreciated!

Every time someone uses their DVC points to trade for any non DVC resort (Disney or not) a DVC room gets pulled from DVC inventory and goes into CRO inventory to recover the cash used to pay for the trade. Just think of those rooms available for cash as having been already rented by another DVC member, then traded away by that DVC member for a room elsewhere.

There are two different sets of inventory, the villas that you can book on points and the ones available for cash from CRO. Any unbooked villas are turned over to CRO 60 days out to try to sell. And, then, like Youarehere stated, when a member trades their points for a Disney non-DVC accomodation, like Disneyland Paris or the DCL or a WDW resort, those get sold by CRO to pay for the trip the member booked. Someone else said, you have to look at it like a member is using those villas, they just aren't sleeping in them.

Jennyvelaz-I was just curious about which dates you tried to book? I've booked at last minute and had good luck. Are you open to any DVC resort or only interested in one particular resort? I've also found that Old Key West usually has availability when everything else is booked.

I called again yesterday and there weren't any 2bedrooms available in any DVC resort. That's why I got mad when we were going to pay for half the stay (giving their "cash back") but not allowing to use my points for 2 weeknights. It is OK to think of them as occupied but do they ever open the booking window at all just to fill the empty room?

What dates are you looking for? I have always been able to find something even at 4 to 7 months prior....

I know that's what is suprising! We usually love the quick trips we plan to get away and now forget it. They did have 1br left at OKW and SSR but 0 2 bdr. They said I could waitlist but I didn't want to lose my borrowed points (To waitlist I'd borrow 46)

The points for the waitlist would not be borrowed unless the room was actually available and booked. They don't "borrow" them upfront, only when needed.

I find you need to plan ahead for DVC ressies - if not at 11 or 7 months, then by around 4 months prior. Otherwise, you run the risk of not having availability for your dates. Sometimes you may find something last minute, yes, but that is not usually the case. At least not your first choice of room type or resort.

Last year I planned a December trip only 3 months prior, and there was not any type room available at any DVC resort. I had to go to the Disney Collection and spend more points for AKL, which was actually the only resort left with availablity for points use at that time, too. In the future, should this happen, it would also cost me a $95 booking fee, yikes.

We've never had an issue before in the 6 years but boy oh boy the changes! $95 here, booking window there, planning ahead from now on! I can't compete with others for space-it's not my thing. That was the plus of this ownership. The whole 'off peak' has become prime! This property requires more work than raking leaves and plowing snow!:sad2:
Thanks for the advice! I might pay cash and waitlist then.
