No appetizers on DDP?

We are thinking about getting the DDP for out trip in July. We are big eaters. But half of us are not dessert eaters and would rather have an appetizer instead of the dessert. Is that allowed? I'm thinking specifically about the table service meals.

And I think I just read somewhere that now you can save your dessert credit and use it for a snack? Is that right or did I just dream that?

TIA!

You cannot trade your dessert for an appetizer at a TS restaurant.

At QS restaurants, you can exchange your dessert for something that takes a snack credit (such as another side of fries) - but I have not heard that you can actually save the credit to use later. I think you have to use the snack credit right then.

Some people have reported being able to trade your dessert for a soup or side salad. If you order an appetizer, you're going to pay for it separately.

You cannot "save" the dessert entitlement at a QS. You have to use it at the same time that you order your meal and you can only sub something that has the snack logo next to it. So you need to go do some homework. Many places only have desserts and drinks as snacks while others do have some other savory type things you can substitute.

As to TS, there have only been a handful of reports of being able to get a small side salad or cup of soup or some kind of veggie instead of the dessert. You definitely have to ask, and it is up to the restaurant what they will offer you. I've not seen any reports of someone having a choice and it will probably not be anything on the menu listed as an app.

Please do the math. If you're paying for the DDP and you skip ANY entitlement, you'll likely end up paying more for the plan than you would OOP.

Sharonabe, I am seeing that it probably will not be worth the price for us to do the DDP. I wasn't planning on it, but DH asked about it yesterday so I looked at the menus where we have ADRs and where we plan to eat for QS and added it all up, and it would cost us more to get the DDP while constraining us a bit. So this just made up my mind for me!

Thanks for the info!
