No ADR - Any chance of getting in?

We put together a short trip about a month ago. We leave this Thursday. We tried to get a dinner adr at Chef Mickeys - a tradition for our first night. Nothing available.

If we just showed up when it opens, is there any chance we could get in? I don't think so, but I'm just not sure. We always go everywhere with an adr.

Thanks for the help.

I don't think you chances are very good at all. However, if you keep on calling even while you are traveling you might be lucky and score a reservation. You could try to go to the restaurant but I would hate for you to waste precious vacation time waiting on a table that might never become open.

Could you possibly alter your tradition a little and try to get a late breakfast the next day? It seems a little bit easier,at least to me,to get a breakfast ressie.

Good Luck!

We're leaving on Friday and just called to do some last minute changes to our ADRs. I was surprised to find a number of time slots still available. Even when we booked the ADRs late (a couple of weeks ago) there were numerous time slots open for Le Cellier, Boma, Sci-Fi, Concourse Steakhouse, etc...

I guess that's not much comfort when they've just told you that there's no availability, but keep in mind that many people overbook their ADRs or simply decide not to go because the kids are tired, they traveled all day, they want to go back and swim at the hotel....

I think it's worth it to keep trying every day until you leave, and then try again when you arrive. You never know what might open up! If not, why not create a new tradition and find another great place to have your first night meal? If you want to keep it at a resort so you're not going into the parks yet, then maybe try Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL, Boma at AKL, O'hana or Kona at Poly, or Hoop-Dee-Doo Review or Mickey's Backyard BBQ at Ft. Wilderness.

Wishing you best of luck and a magical vacation!

In May, we were able to make same day changes to several of our ADRs. However, we also saw at least 3 episodes of "walk up" parties being turned away for lack of availability.

My favorite story was being told that there was no availability at LeCellier for the next 3 days. I called 4 hours later and there had been a cancellation--we got ADRs for that night.

My suggestion would be to call on a daily basis, perhaps even while on the road. Have the concierge desk (formerly guest services) call at check in. But don't waste your time going over and hoping if you can't get an ADR. Start a new tradition.....

Keep calling because there will be cancellations. As others have said, you may have to change with meal/day/time but do keep trying. A few years ago I did hear of people showing up before opening and getting seated but from what I've "heard" it became a problem since it is an all you can eat and those getting seated early (some, not all of course) could and would stay as long as they wanted which backed up all the folks who had AR's so they had to stop the early walkup thing.

Call, Call, Call... we most always get same day ADR's since we never know when or where we'll be or when we're going. The only times I plan ahead are for special occasions I know I want a specific place/time, etc of for a large group. Try calling day of, a few hours before and right before, etc. Goodluck!
