I am on my weight loss journey and we are planning our next trip. My plan calls for no sugar (added sugar that is, natural sugars are ok). Has anyone attempted to work with this way of eating while in the world? I have over 100 lbs to lose and this type of diet is working for me (20lbs to date!) Any guidance/thoughts are appreciated!

I know that many of the TS restaurants have at least one "no sugar added" type dessert. It's often some type of sorbet. Some of the QS locations might have fresh fruit that can selected for a dessert option when on the DDP.

A lot of the table services and signatures have 'no sugar added' options.
When I'm cutting, I usually do CKD (a keto styled diet, low carbs/high protein).
There are plenty of lean protein and salad options at every restaurant, not sure about desserts.

A sensible thing for you to do is skip desserts and bread, pasta, starches. Stick to meat (with little or no sauce), vegetables (not fried, no cheese sauce, no butter), and salad with low fat dressing. Have unsweetened ice tea, coffee, club soda. Change the types of food you eat every day and stick with it until it becomes a lifelong habit.

If you're talking fresh fruit, probably. The no-sugar-added items often have added fat or something else added that makes the items just as high in calories and carbohydrates, and they may contain sugar alcohols which can cause GI problems. I avoid them. Sharing with a family member helps me keep portion sizes down so I can fit a taste of a dessert into my meal plan.

Low-fat salad dressings are often higher in carbs and sugar. There's nothing wrong with fried (unbreaded) foods, cheese (not cheese sauce) or butter if she's looking to cut sugar. Like an above poster, I do Keto, which is high fat, moderate protein, very low carb, and can find appropriate menu choices at pretty much any restaurant (except some italian restos, which tend to be pasta/starch heavy). Usually at a resto I will opt for steak, grilled unbreaded chicken, or unbreaded fish and pick low-carb veggies for a side, or a salad and then go with oil/vinegar, salsa, guac, or a full-fat dressing in moderation. If you're craving something other than water, skip diet soda and get unsweetened iced tea.

Good luck! Dieting is very hard, but you can do it! :)

Bingo. Low-fat products are almost always made up for with increased sugar.
Another keto person! I go with CKD and do the 'glycogen' refeed for 24-30 hours when I'm in cutting season for the summer or shows.

Go with the unsweetened tea's or even use Myo/flavoring packets.
The sweeteners in diet drinks still illicit an insulin response.

OP- are you avoiding carbs/sugary food or just avoiding sugar added foods? As in, are you eating fruits/milk/honey/certain veggies that still have high carbs?

I'm the worst person to ask :\ I don't diet on vacations, but I'll meal prep and diet like a psycho year round
