through AAA? Does this seem right?

I know you can use them to book trips, even if you don't belong to AAA. In the past I have booked rooms near DL and in the booking it would clearly state "AAA rate -- you need to show your card", etc for *some* of the reservations, so I would just pick one that didn't say that.

For WDW, it just had a room to book (CBR) at a reduced rate (140 regular season). Does this seem right? Are they going to be asking for my AAA card at Disney check in? When will Disney have this reservation in their system?

Thanks for any information!

My luck would be they would ask for it. So I would get AAA, if anything, it'll pay for itself when you have car problems.

I would ALWAYS assume you will need to show your card. I would get a membership now if I were you.

I would totally expect them to ask to see your card to get the AAA rate. We have always had to show ours.

When I had originally book my "room only", I was told I needed to show my card upon check in, or the rate would go to rack rate of the current season (value when I go).

Thanks. Does anyone know when I can call Disney and they will "see" my reservation in their system? I need to also get our ME bus reservation as well.

I would expect to show my card for the rate when you check in. If you don't have it as proof they can charge you full rack rate for the length of your stay..and that wouldn't be much fun. Bite the bullet..get the card.

1) Get the AAA membership.
2) The Front Desk is supposed to ask for the card at check-in.
3) If they ask and you don't have, you are charged FULL RACK RATE.
4) In other words, full price, with no discount.

The money you save is well worth the discount, I saved a couple of hundred dollars- wouldnt you hate to loose those dollars because you didnt get the membership?

I just booked a room on a AAA discount and was told to have my card with me at check in for the cm to write the membership # down on my ressie.

Brenda,

We've booked through AAA for years without being members. They shouldn't ask for your card as long as you've called AAA to book your vacation. If you called Disney and asked for the AAA discount then you would need your card. Hope this helps.

Derek

sorry to hijack but I have a question.....

we are booked with a AAA discount....I had a membership when I booked, but it has since expired and I have not renewed yet. My DD17 is going with us too. She has a current AAA membership. Would that be sufficient or does the AAA membership need to be in my name since the reservation is under my name? (DD's are all listed on the reservation as well)

I'm not sure about Disney's policy, but at "other" hotels it's fine, so long as the AAA member is in the room (or one of the rooms) booked. We've done this before when travelling to see my brother in college. I book the rooms (and usually pay for them) for my family and my mother and step-dad. We use the AAA discount rate since my mother is a member...she shows her card. We asked AAA about this (before we did it) and they said it was an acceptable use of the card.

You can book ressies without a card number, but as others have said, you had best have the card - or someone in your party - because last year not only did our AAA TA ask for our card number at one point, so did the front desk at check-in.

Not saying that the OP did this (she only asked about booking, after all), but personally, I think it's pretty dishonest to book for the AAA discount if you have no intention of buying a membership, or at least traveling with someone who is a member. Would someone trying to shop at Costco or another membership store expect to be able to get in and shop without a card?

Well, that is the question now isn't it. Through AAA web site you can book hotels, cars, etc. It's open to anyone to book a reservation -- not just AAA members. Certain bookings will say AAA Discount and that you will need a membership to get that rate. Other bookings will not. The Disney one does not say AAA discount.

When I booked for Disneyland, I booked through AAA and was able to get a better rate then elsewhere, but it was not the "AAA Rate", which was $5 less. I specifically didn't book that room because it said "AAA rate". The others did not. There were also AARP rates that I did not book because I don't have a membership there either.

So, Derek, it sounds like you've been able to book through AAA and get a good rate that was not tied to a membership. This is what I'm trying to find out about. ANyone else???

They are probably going to ask for your card. I noted the following when I started a reservation at the discounted rate: "Special Note: To receive AAA/CAA member rates as identified above, a AAA/CAA membership card must be presented at check-in. Only two rooms per member may be booked at the AAA rate."

Yep, just checked a different date range and property, and the same special note is on that page, too.

Yes, you must show your card at check-in.

Maybe it depends on which state your AAA is in because I don't see *any* message like that whatsoever when I look at the Disney rooms.

I have sent a message to AAA asking for clarification.
