No 12 Volt Plugs in the New RV

Okay, so our older TT, Coachmen Capri 27TBS, had several of the 12V plugs through out the TT. This was awesome because as we travel (without a generator), I could still use the 12V plugs for things like the USB chargers plus I had a small inverter that I could run smaller 110V electronics if needed.

Now, we have a new Coachmen Catalina 343QBDS. As we are planning our trip to the Fort in August, the DW and I were out in the TT testing things to make sure everything will be okay. (Air conditioner, refrigerator, water systems, etc...) SO as we were just lying on our new bed (and saying how "Firm" it was) we were talking about the trip down. I mentioned how there will be no Air Conditioner for our trip down because it only works on the Shore Power. Since we stop usually twice on the trip down to "Boondock" on the drive down, it will get warm. Particularly because this will be the first trip down in the TT in AUGUST! (usually we go in late November, and we need HEAT more than AC).

I just told the DW that we could use fans and we would have to get 12V fans.... But wait... There are NO 12V outlets....

Can't figure this out. What do others do? (those of you who "Boondock" either briefly or even longer term). I don't want to have to run a generator all night just to run a fan (or better yet, the AC). I am surprised that no 12V outlets were installed. Could this be a simple MOD to the RV?

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, after getting used to a few 12v sockets in our old class C, we were disappointed with the total lack of them in our new class A. We get by using the ones in the dash instead but I can see how that would be a problem in a TT.

I installed a Maxxair deluxe fan in one of the vents. That could be an option for your ventilation as it works great moving air. Another option which I'll eventually do myself is tap into the 12v and install 12v sockets in a few places around it. There should be plenty of 12v wires everywhere for the lighting so you'll have no problem finding some.

Changing of the times. Seems they are using USB ports instead since people don't need the 12v outlets to charge phones as much as the USB. This would be my guess. From looking at some new models I noted the 12v plugs were gone and there were x2 USB ports at the bedside instead.

My 2012 Jayco has two of the 12v plugs, though one is about head level as you enter the door and the other is located under the main television. Not very useful for anything that I could find so far.

Just my thoughts. You could utilize battery operated fans if you like, run on AA or AAA.

Our new TT doesn't even have the USB ports.

I did think about using a battery operated fan, but I just wonder if it can create enough of an air flow for long enough.

I will be considering putting in my own 12 Volt outlets. Just need to find a good place to do it without having to tear things completely apart.
