We currently have a 1 bd. room at SSR booked for 12/6 - 12/11 and at the 7 months mark we tried getting a 1 or 2 bd. at AKV but nothing is available. Then we called trying to see if there were any 1 or 2 bd. available at OKW or any 1 bd. at VWL, again nothing. My next call will be to see if there are any 1 or 2 bd. availalbe anywhere else on property. I can understand some of these being booked but am a little surprised that all of the 1 and 2 bd. are unavailable at at least three of the DVC resorts. Fingers are still crossed that something at AKV opens up.

I wouldn't wait another minute, call now to see if there's anything available, perhaps BWV, perferred view. Did you waitlist AKV?

Actually, that is one of the most popular weeks of the year for booking DVC. I booked it right at the 11 month mark, 1 bedroom boardwalk view.

I would waitlist right now for whatever else you want. I would think that VWL will be nearly impossible at this time of year though. I had trouble getting it at 10 months in a 1 bdrm. for 11/29 - 12/5.

Yep...welcome to December at DVC! Fortunately you have your SSR ressie, so you're in a good position. If you don't get lucky, at least you have a good place to stay.

wonder if there would be a slightly better than average chance of getting a WL granted for that period at AKV Kidani (if you must specify Jambo or Kidani in the new WL system?) because more units will become occupiable (in Nov?) and declared into inventory as they are sold..

Definitely get yourself on the waitlist for AKV NOW! The earlier you get on the list, the better chance you have of getting what you want. Don't limit yourself in any way by choosing either Jambo or Kidani. ...State EITHER since they are both the same resort.

As noted, get on the WL. Decide what your two best options are and WL those. Remember if you WL a 1 & a 2 BR, that's you're 2 choices. OKW and AKV are the most likely to become available. I'd WL AKV if it were I.

Definitely wait list ASAP. We booked at AKV for 11/23-11/29 around the 11 month time frame and only booked a studio (new to DVC so thought oh that will be fine). We have since thought more about the accommodations and looked at pics and read lots of threads, and called last week to change to a 1 bdrm at Kindani (our home resort) and they don't have anything available for the entire stay:mad: We did wait list it, but we're not holding our breath. I guess we learned the hard way :sad2:

I tried to change my AKV-1 br value for Oct 16-18 to a 1 br at VWL, BWV or Kidani yesterday. OKW was the only DVC resort that had all of the nights available. I was a bit surprised that only one resort had availability.

Guess the months of Winter, Fall, Spring and Summer are all busy times at DVC now.

Makes me wonder....they sell points in a DVC resort until they reach the calculated maximum. What happens if everyone who had points in that resort actually attempted to stay there? Capacity would never be able to accommodate that. Then it would REALLY be hard to book!!

What is frustrating is that when I go online to check cash availability the only DVC resort that doesn't have 1 or 2 bd. availability is VWL. There is availability everywhere else, even the treehouses. There just isn't anything available for points. :sad2: We still have our 1 bd. SSR ressie but were trying to get something bigger so that my SIL/BIL/kids could go with us. We are on two WLs so we'll just keep our fingers crossed.

Just remember that what you are looking at is NOT DVC inventory. It's either part of the breakage inventory owned by DVC and turned over to CRO, or it's inventory that owners have traded out to use for a cruise etc. That inventory is no longer part of DVC, so it's unavailable.

I know but it still stinks. It just stinks that at seven months out there is nothing left for DVC members because it has all been turned over to CRO. When DH called last week to see if there were any 2 bd. available anywhere he was told there was nothing but through CRO there is everything except VWL.

Agreed. It does indeed stink.
It would really be nice if DVC had worked in the contracts with WDC that they could pull back unsold inventory when there were wait lists to fulfill. This would be difficult to do with rooms given to bulk operators (travel industry) but certainly they could do with with the inventory held solely by Disney for sale only by Disney directly.
:confused3

DVC and members are not entitled to that inventory on points, it's not good or bad, just the way it's set up. The only way to minimize this would be to wipe out all exchange options permanently.

Yes, and if you think we hear folks complaining loudly about the CRO inventory now, just imagine what we would hear if they couldn't exchange!:rotfl:

It would be interesting to know the proportion of points that are used for the non-DVC / non-RCI exchanges (the ones that result in DVC nights getting sent to CRO). FWIW, I don't think eliminating all of those would make all that much difference for the week the OP is trying to get. At least she has a reservation at SSR if her waitlist doesn't work.

We should bookmark all the threads like these so that we can post links to them when people say they always get what they want at 7 months so there is no need to buy where they want to stay, LOL.

Breakage inventory is unreserved points rooms turned over to CRO at 60 days. There wouldn't be any in this case since it's 6-7 months away. If there is breakage inventory, profits for those rooms booked through CRO comes back to the members in the form of a dues credit (it shows on the budget as "breakage income").

Rooms owned by DVD/DVC (unsold/undeclared points or points from ROFR) are not breakage, all profits go back to them.

Not necessarily true. DVC has the right (it's in the POS) to anticipate breakage inventory and grab it as much as 11 months out. But most is likely cash equivalent exchanges such as DCL, DC, CC and the like.

I don't know of anyway to know this. We have the end of year audit, coming up soon, for II and later for RCI plus BVTC. It was just over 3% last time, I'm expecting about the same this time. I think it'll be higher by a minimal amount (4-4.5%) the first couple of years with RCI then settle back down to around the same 3-3.5% long term. It's possible that one could see the info if they go in and examine the books but that's about the only way to possibly get it if even then. My guess is about 5-6% of the points with the majority going to DCL. It could easily be as high as around 10% though. That's a lot of rooms, esp since they tend to group them during the lower seasons. My guess is that at certain times, as much as 20% of the total DVC rooms could be room reserved in this manner and as high as 10% at the same time be exchange rooms (BVTC & II/RCI). 30% not available to members is quite a lot. With RCI there has been a lot of BCV inventory plus the BWV BW view issue where BCV was the main replacement. Makes you wonder if DVC isn't sitting on a LOT of ROFR inventory there.

I would hope they did not turn rooms over to CRO for one of the most popular weeks of the year anticipating they would be empty. If they did, they should be able to take them back when they have a waitlist.
