Day 2, Part 2 – 2/28/04

Cast:

Alex—DH and stepfather to:
Caitlin, 13
and me, Amy, official trip planner

Went back to the Dolphin and rested for a bit, but we were too antsy to rest for long. Cait decided that she wanted to go back to MGM, her main reason being that she could ride the boat. It was still too cold to ride in the back. I’m the meanest mom ever--you should really know this about me.

We hopped onto the Great Movie Ride and Cait hid her head during the Alien part. Funny, I don’t remember the one coming out from the side and I got a little freaked myself! Rock-n-Roller Coaster AGAIN—yep, Steven Tyler and the gang were still there. Then we did a few more gift shops and decided to head on back because it was kind of crowded there.

We decided to do a little tour of our hotel. We walked down to the pools—a beautiful white sand beach with hammocks and lounge chairs, a regular pool, and the grotto pool. Also, 3 hot tubs (maybe more, but that’s all I remember seeing.) It was great with little bridges you had to cross. We walked over to Fantasia Gardens—I wanted to play some putt putt, but Alex was putt putting out of steam. We wandered around for quite awhile admiring all the fountains and the landscaping. It really is a beautiful resort.

We headed down to Tubbi’s for some dinner after retrieving the refillable mugs from the room. Here, Caitlin found her favorite meal in all of WDW and manipulated us around almost every day so she could get this. Grilled cheese. Yep, the great gourmet vacation food—grilled cheese. Now the secret to Tubbi’s grilled cheese, as near as I can figure, is this: They give you one and a half sandwiches. Three halves. And fries. Caitlin was in love. Here’s the weird thing, though. What is the deal with the pickles at this place? Not just Tubbi’s, also the Dolphin Fountain? It’s not a pickle, it’s not a cucumber. It’s a dill flavored cucumber. Caitlin took to calling it a pickumber or a cuckle. It was the weirdest thing I’d ever tasted!

We wandered up to our room and Alex and I were reading while Caitlin was rotting her brain with the Disney Channel and Cartoon Network. I watched a disturbing amount of Lizzie Maguire and Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Suddenly, we heard this loud bang. I realized what it was and ran out to the balcony. Fireworks—beautiful fireworks right from the balcony. We sat and watched and were so happy! What a wonderful day.

Too bad I’ll be up till 2:30 a.m. unable to sleep because of the stinking bed—but I didn’t know that yet.

I am thinking that what they gave you was a "half-sour".

They are in every deli in the Northeast. My favorite!!

Thanks for the great report!

but we do agree with you....it is not a regular size pickle it is CUKE .....and takes up one part of the platter.......the grounds are beautiful arent' they.......thanks for reminding me that I need to get back there...

Very entertaining trip reports! I took my neice (13) last year and she was also hiding in the Great Movie Ride when the aliens popped out! Too Funny!
