I booked Sunday through Disney and got a deal!! I told them that I wanted to try and get a room through them and pay the same as on Expedia. Expedia offered $49/night for the rooms but they couldn't guarantee adjoining rooms. I ended up booking it through Disney for the same price!! Two rooms for $98/night! When I asked him why didn't it show up online like that he said that he had to put in a certain code. The only place available was All Star Sports, but you can give it a try!!

Oh yeah, all star movies did have rooms too but I think it was the preferred rooms and they were $64/night.

Hubby and I are going about the same time and just reserved our room last week at Sports. We were looking Thurs. evening and had a great deal pop up, and then we searched around and I couldn't get the same deal back. Hubby called and they couldn't find it either.

Sat. AM I was curious, so I went and tried it again... low and behold it came right up and Hubby called and booked it. We had some questions, and we we always like to give them a chance to give us something special whether it be a discount, etc.

The lady Hubby talked to told him to always call in the morning as that's your best bet in finding a hard to get room/deal.

if they are really set for going those dates, i would recommend offsite. for the price you would pay for onsite, you can get an entire condo or townhouse offsite. again, not ideal for a firstimer who wants to experinece all of the "surrounded by magic" feel of staying onsite at WDW....but a great experinece all the same. it is especially ideal if they were going to need two rooms anyway. many condos are at least 2 bedrooms, some 3 and the town houses are generally 3 bedrooms (with 3 baths and some even have a priviate pool.)

we have done onsite for years and tried offsite at a townhouse this past summer. loved it. so many pluses. will i ever stay onsite again...sure i will, but i certainly won't give a 2nd thought to booking offsite if the situation ($, availabilty onsite, need for more than one room or extra space, etc.) called for it.

There are off site resorts (Good Neighbor Hotels) offering the 7 for 4 deal too. They will need to call Disney to book them.
At least they would have something at a decent deal of nothing is available on property.

Wait a minute.... I'm still trying to process this..... there are people who think you can just drive up to Disney with no reservations? With 4 kids?

How old are the children? I have a son who is 17 months and 3 older children. We were able to book a room in the alligator bayou section of port orleans riverside and that would be very close in price to two value rooms...just a thought. I wish your friends luck and a great trip!
