We like to go camping for long weekends. We just took a day off and went camping this past weekend with an old friend. During our trip our friend was talking about expanding his horizons and going different places. DH and I were on board with that.

We did a lot of talking and we know lots of places to go as far as general area, but no specific towns. We've got other places in mind as well but for now we've decided next year we'll be looking for a place to go camping on the New Jersey beach. Our reason for choosing the New Jersey beaches - we want go somewhere different but need a place that's within an 8 hour drive so we have time to set out in the morning and still get there with plenty of daylight to get set up and cook dinner. We know of a great campground in Myrtle Beach, SC but that's just too far away for a long weekend.

We have the world in our current favorite beach location and would like to try to match it so here's what we're looking for:

A private or state run campground thats reasonably priced (less than $50/night - the cheaper the better),
Trees for shade
Clean facilities
tent friendly (a must we don't have a camper)
Family friendly -
Easy beach access
and where there are activities such as a boardwalk, mini-golf, etc within easy driving distance.

On the dream list - Our friend has two children 21 & 22 who he likes to take camping with him so in addition we'd like a place that has night life close by; if possible, something they could ride their bikes to so no drunk driving - believe it or not the place we go to in P-town on Cape Cod really does have this.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

Nothing like that in good ole NJ. All of the beaches with the exception of Wildwood and Atlantic City you have to pay to get on. Anything with a boardwalk is a tourist destination trap. The state park beaches and the only two that come to mind are Island Beach State Park, and Sandy Hook don't have a nightlife anywhere within biking distance. Those are the only two that might have some camping, but I'm not positive.

Unfortunately, all beach towns are just that..towns. Nothing is really left alone except for the two state parks. Island Beach is closest to Seaside where the morons from the Jersey Shore invade the clubs. Its still a drive though, and Sandy Hook is close to Atlantic Highlands area.

I have camped at other campgrounds in the state which some offer quite a bit and some are within driving distance to the beaches and stuff, but not in the middle of it all.

I would check into Cape May area they do have campgrounds closer to the beaches.
