I have one and I love it. I've had two Honda Accords and I like my Altima even better than them. GREAT CARS!

I have had two Nissan's though not Altima's. I love the Altima's and the Maxima's however I would have to think twice about buying one based on personal experience.

My first Nissan's air condition died and after replacing the computer chip and making sure it was charged and all it worked for a year, then died again. Never got it fix again.

My newer Nissan had the exact same problem and I fixed it once and now it works sometimes but it's half the time and not as cool. Based on these two factors I would think twice about getting another one. It was an expensive repair both times.

we just got rid of our 96 altima this spring. not because anything was wrong with it, it was going strong, but because we needed a mini van to fit the new twins and our toddler. great car!

I also just got rid of my 96 altima this spring. First, the alternator died and cost $500 to fix. Then, the heat went and would only work on the highest setting (never got that fixed). The final straw was the transmission going...I just traded the darn thing after that. I personally won't buy another Nissan.

The Altima went through a complete redesign in 2001 or 2002 I think. It is not even the same car that was produced before that. All makers have problems, but you can't judge a new Altima by a 1990's Altima, IMO.

I also had one for about 6 years, I traded it in last year for a car with a bigger engine. I loved it though!

I would say that an Altima should get about 150,000 miles before major problems start happening. From a previous post you were looking at one with about 86,000 miles on it. At this point please look to see if the timing belt was changed this could be a major job if it hasn't been done by now. Also look at the rear brakes, If drums they should be ready for a change.

This is reallly Pooh_Friend#1 posting under my moms name, I am too lazy to switch. I love my Nissan. I had a Nissan Sentra that was at 115,000 when I traded it in and never had to put one cent into that thing. I traded it in for a Nissan Pathfinder and continue to love Nissan, I have never had problems with a Nissan. Just for some info, Nissan's have timing chains, not belts so you don't have to replace them like with timing belts.

I have a 2003 Altima and love it!

It is my second Altima... first one was a 1996 and had close to 120,000 miles before it started to have problems.

I was at the dealership today for routine maintenance and saw the 2005's. OH MY!

They are awesome and have some great extras. Our family has always had at least one Nissan in the "fleet" since 1985 (when it just changed from Datsun).

We have an original '93 Altima when it still had the little "Stanza" sticker on the trunck lid and later a used '94 which we traded in when we bought our Murano.

We've enjoyed the Altimas. For fear of jinxing things, I'll just say we've found them to be very reliable.

We have a '97 Altima and LOVE it! We purchased it used in '99 (our first car purchase) and it has been great. The only 'major' thing we've done is put some new brakes on it. Everything else has held up really well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Altima!

Our Altima has been a good one. Lately its showing its age though. Just put a new alternator in it. I think its a 95.

DS has a 2001 Altima..so far so good...(if you are buying a new one the Camry's are about the same price here, and that's the way we went with DH and other DS)

Don't have a Atlima but have a Nissian Sentra had no major problems on the car and it's 11 years old.

A friend my said Nissian, Toyota, and Honda is all good cars.

But ever since I seen the 2005 Altimas I drools.

Our 1993 Altima is still kicking. It doesn't look so great (had a little episode w/ a garage door) but it runs well. It is DH's commuting car when the weather is bad and he can't ride his Harley. We plan to drive it until it dies. It costs us $18 in taxes every six months. Of course DH takes VERY good care of our vehicles. It has 140+K on it, so knock on some wood that it will keep going...
