Nintendo DSi & DSLite - which would you get and why?

I was planning on buying a Nintendo DS for a Christmas present soon but am now confused by the two different DS options....not sure which would be better...costs aside. If you have either one or both could you share with me which you like better or which you would choose now if you had the choice.

Thank you guys....I just don't want to buy the wrong one.

One of ours broke and I got the regular DS and not the Dsi. My kids have 2 Gameboy games and they don't fit in the Dsi's.

I also didn't want to spend the extra $40 on features they wouldn't use, like the camera.

Thank you...I saw the 2 camera options on the DSi and while it's neat I don't think it would be used. I was just worried that the DSi had better graphic or something. Good to know about the old games not being able to be played on the DSi.

My DS has the DSi, and loves the camera feature because you can put different graphics on the pictures.
Also too, the internal memory holds up to 400 photos.

You can't play old GAMEBOY games on the DSi, which you probably don't have any anyway. You can play DS games on the DSi, and if they start making games for just the DSi, you might not be able to buy new DS games. Ds11 has a DSi, and if I was buying a new system for my kids, I'd get the DSi, because it does do a lot more, and my kids use the same system for years. Ds6 and dd6 love playing with the camera feature, and morphing the pictures.

Thank you everyone....I don't think the camera will be used much (or I could be wrong) but if the DSi has more features then that makes it worth it for me. I just didn't want to get the newer one just because of the camera.

Mjkacmom - thanks for pointing out that if they make new games that are just DSi compatable that he would miss out on that.

Thank you for your help...I'm going to start looking at the different locations that sell them to see where I can get the best deal.

My kids got the DS's for Christmas a few years ago, this summer they had allowance saved and both bought DSi's they love them and use them. My kids (that have them) are 13 and 10. The camera and its options are actually pretty cool, and have been a source of endless entertainment around our house (and some very unflattering pictures of mom). I have been known to snag one and get on the internet at places with wifi when I need to check in on a something too LOL

DS loves the camera feature.
I got the pig nose, dh got mario hat.
He also likes that he can tape a conversation and than change the peoples voice.
Although they have yet to come out with DSi specific games, some new games have features that are only available on the DSi.
I just bought James Patterson Womens Murder Club game and although it is compatible on both systems, it has extras on the DSi, not available on the DS.

Wow...it sounds like DSi is the way to go....as for unflattering pictures of mom...yikes that happens all the time! Thank you for mentioning the extras that I had not heard about. I appreciate the info!
