Has any body bought any Nintendo DS or PS2 games in Orlando - walmart or where ever? Are they cheaper than here and are they compatible with our consoles? Could make some great cheap xmas pressies, if so - and pressies for me too!

In a word, no. Both consoles are region-locked so you can't use US games on them. However, you can get the PS2 chipped at most independent games stores to accept imported and backup discs - just make sure your TV is NTSC compatible :goodvibes:

And yes, they generally are cheaper, as a rule.

Er ... I thought that DS games from the USA were compatible? I know that GBA games certainly are as we bought loads last time and I was under the impression that the DS games from the US would play on UK bought machines. :confused3

PS2 games won't work on a non-chipped system.

Nintendo DS consoles/games aren't region specific so OK to buy in the US. :thumbsup2

can confirm that DS games are ok to buy NTSC and play on PAL consoles.

PS2 no way.

You didnt mention these but PSP would be ok, as would a lot of xbox360 games, if in doubt ask, if they are in doubt find a pc with internet and have a quick google.

yes there fine my wee bro bought games in the US and the work on my son's DS
price wise i think he said they were slightly cheaper

When I was in NY last week the ds games were the same price as ours if you just removed the dollar sign so they were cheaper. Plan to invest in some when we fly over next year. Regret not getting any last week but we still hadn't decided if dd was to get one. My cousin lives there and says she will get me the ones I saw as they worked out a lot cheaper.

We have two US purchased Dual Screens and both US and UK games work fine. We found the games quite a bit cheaper in the US.

PSP games are mostly compatible, unless the game has video footage which may be region coded.

also if not going to the us try this website

its canadian, so even better exchange rate, and games are same as USA, shipping is very quick and usually it skips through the tax people, so you dont get hit with anything.

videogameplus.ca even if you just use it so that you can get your kids to show you what games they actually want before you go?

Hope i helped with another avenue. :)

Thanks for the link! :thumbsup2 I was very annoyed with myself that I didn't take advantage of the prices whilst in Orlando this summer so that's a great help... :cool1:

As others have already pointed out, Bazzanoid is 50% wrong in his original reply.
The DS (and DS Lite) is not region locked in any way whatsoever. I run US, JAP and UK titles on mine without issue.
