Nintendo 3DS Price Drop to $169.99

We've got a couple of DSis and we love those things, but I couldn't see paying $250 for a 3D one even after a couple years. Heck I can't see paying $170 for one either even if they look cool.

The value gets even better when they just announced Netflix streaming with be available on the 3DS later this year. MY son has wanted one since they came out and with the price drop he may get one for Christmas.

My Aunt just purchased the larger DSI for my Son for his b-day. I wouldn't let her purchase the 3D one. The reason for it is he played it at Target one day. We pulled him away from it and then went outside and I looked at him and his eyes were all bloodshot and like wth? I looked like he had Pink Eye. He was fine when we went in but not when we came out. It took about 1/2 hour for his eyes to clear. It was that stupid 3D game - had to be. It isn't good for your eyes.

Nintendo just reported their first ever quarterly income loss. They lost millions, so hence the discount. Trying to lure in some business.

My DS has had the DS3D since it came out. He doesn't play it in 3d very often. There are so many things it can do --special camera, internet, etc.
It really is much better than the older Ds. That's a huge price drop!

My kids haven't touched their DS since they received the ipod touch last Christmas. I wonder if that's a contributor to the decrease in sales?

Fantastic! Have been planning to get this for dd for Christmas. :) Almost bought it the other day at Toys R Us because they had a gift card with purchase -- soooo glad I waited!

It should have never been $249.99 in the first place and $169.99 sounds more reasonable. I guess it must not be selling well to announce a price drop just 4 months after it was released.

It's not selling well at all. Problem is it still doesn't have a 'must have' 3DS game so I don't think a price cut will help. People will just buy a DSi instead.

I was pretty annoyed with the price drop announcement today. DS got one for his birthday in May. $80 is a big deal. Then I read that early adopters (Ambassadors, as Nintendo is tagging them) will be able to download 20 free games from the eShop later this year. Not 100% thrilled, but its a nice olive branch from The House that Mario Built.

We got 3 of them earlier too.....

Are any of the games 3D?

Thanks,

Dawn

It could well be, apple and android games for tablets like the ipad are addicting and a lot cheaper than 3DS games. In the UK the 3d games are £40 or ~$65 each :scared1:

I can't see 3d anyway, (astygmatism, too severe for lenses) but even if I could I doubt I would buy this. Not to mention that in the UK is is the equivalent of $272 to buy it. It used to be the equivalent of $368 here before the price was dropped :scared1::scared1::scared1:

3D is just a gimmick. Tbh, the fact I can't see it is a blessing, as I cant afford my eyesight to get worse, and I won't be suckered in by these novelty gadgets (just every other gadget out there )

My son has had a 3ds since may....in case anyone is wondering, it is much more than being just 3d. It does a lot of stuff, plus is just a better gaming machine (processing wise) and my son loves taking 3d pictures. I definitely think it is worth 170. We only paid 75 due to trading in a broken ps3 and a few games, but he has an ipod touch as well and plays both often. Now my daughter has a DS Lite and really doesn't care enough about the games and stuff for a 3ds. But my son is a huge nintendo/mario fan and loves to have it all.

BTW, Netflix is already available on the 3ds. It is a free download in the eshop.

Netflix is CURRENTLY available for the 3DS. My DD just downloaded it yesterday! The only bad thing is that is does require "activation" through your Netflix account, so it counts as 1 of your "devices." I believe you only get 5 "devices" per account, so for us adding her 3DS put us at our limit of devices. :rolleyes1

I believe it was earlier this year that Netflix essentially removed the cap for all intents and purposes. They raised it to something like fifty devices. So no worries adding on a 3ds here or there.

My 14YO has asked for one for Christmas. I told him it would be his only gift & he's fine with that. Since the price has dropped some I may set his limit at an even $200 & get some accessories to go with it. That still leaves a LOT for DDs Christmas. Her gifts are going to tower over his!
