Nine Days of WDW Food for 9 (with pics) Now Complete w/ Final Thoughts

Nope, no Tuna Tartare listed on my menu. So unless the menu was changed, then I don't think he's right. ;) Could it perhaps have been this?

Huckleberry Lacquered Pork Belly with Green Papaya Slaw, Athena Melon and Lotus Root Chip
That was it for sure! I remember now! I know why he was confused. I said we were given a chip as an amuse bouche that was with what I thought was sushi grade fish. I now remember THAT was the tuna tartare!! Thank you so much!

I think if your son is on the hunt for chicken and waffles, he will not be disappointed in the ones at TE!

It seems we can never have the same signature restaurant experience two years in a row...except the last two meals at AP have been great! The most hit or miss for us has been Jiko. California Grill has been a total miss...

See and Cali Grill has been perfect each time for us. Jiko has been outstanding and just good ... but never a miss. I am curious to see how we make out this year!

Originally, we had ADRs for Boma. But, we were tired of eating and tired of spending money!:cool1: So, we compromised. By switching our meal to Mara (the food court at AKL) we were able to enjoy some African-inspired favorites without all the hassle or the price-tag!

Chicken Flatbread - with corn, mozzarella and zough drizzle (reminded me of a green chimichurri sauce for the drizzle)

This was absolutely delicious! I wish I could have a slice now!

Butternut Squash Soup--not my favorite...

1-IMG_1141.jpg

I believe this was the chicken pepper-pot soup (partially eaten, sorry)--and it was very yummy!

We also had zebra domes (not pictured)

Mousellaneous treats:

1-IMG_1146.jpg

We had breakfast outside on the Boardwalk our final morning at WDW. It was a very pleasant experience!

1-IMG_1144-001.jpg

A few of us had this banana chocolate chip muffin with instant serve cappuccinos. I really enjoyed the muffin. The coffee...um, not so much!

1-IMG_1136.jpg

Had treats here twice, once we were seated, once we placed to go orders.

1-IMG_1109.jpg

A "to go" shake...yummy!

1-102_3426.jpg

A No Way Jose from Beaches N Cream...love the chocolate peanut butter!

1-102_3433.jpg

My No Way Jose was made Jr. size...

DS8 enjoyed this Mickey Sundae at Beaches N Cream...

1-IMG_0698.jpg

A melon Kaki-gori...a family favorite from a stand in Japan...

Not pictured:
Karamell-Küche--I loved salted chocolate caramels, DS8 had a square of plain caramel that he adored, I had a caramel marshmallow swirl...I know other family members enjoyed their treats from there very much!

Thank you for your wonderful reviews!!!:goodvibes I love Sanaa and I truly feel I have had better service there, out of all of our TS experiences.

The food is to die for and I only wish that they had the butter chicken when I was there. I had the short rib/shrimp combo.

Loved the Grand Floridian Tea! I went with a dear friend and it was a wonderful experience.

I am now 'homesick' and hungry!!:thumbsup2

I feel Mara is a hidden gem! They have fantastic soups and a varied se;ection on their menu. Oh wow, now I am REALLY homesick and extra hungry!!!

Final thoughts:

Before our flight on our final day, we returned to Via Napoli in EPCOT. We enjoyed it, but there was a thought that perhaps we should have left our memory of Via Napoli right where it was. I think twice in a week might have been a bit too much for us. First of all, we over-ordered...probably realizing it was our last Disney meal for the trip caused us to do so. Once again, we had the family-style salad, and then we ordered a variety of smaller pizzas. It was just wayyy too much food! Then because we wanted tiramisu, we ordered several of those and a bunch of cappucinos. We ended up sending the folks seated near us home with a couple of pizza boxes for them to share with their kids back in Tampa that night. We couldn't bear the thought of letting it all go to waste!
1-IMG_1161.jpg

Half of this is the Carciofi Pizza - Artichoke, Truffle Oil, Pecorino, Mozzarella (rich and delicious)! The other half was regular pizza with Italian Sausage, I believe. In the background some of the other things we ordered are pictured.

It was good but I do wish we would have gone somewhere else just to have one more different experience!

TIW saved us a boatload of money! Enough said!

I would change very little about our trip. It was nearly perfect. Thanks for joining in as I have relived a wonderful part of our vacation--the Disney Dining!

Loved your awesome reviews and pics, looks like you had an amazing time with your family in the happiest place on earth! :goodvibes Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.

I am reading along and enjoying your reviews!

We have Paciugo as well in Minneapolis. It is sooo good! My favorites are Cinnamon, Peanut Butter Coffee, and Brown Sugar waffle Cone! Yum, i want some now!

I wanted to pop back in and explain some corrections that I made to my AP reviews. After consulting with DS25, he told me he DID NOT care for the pork belly appetizer at AP because it was so fatty. Also, it was the amuse bouche with the tuna tartare that he feels was one of the best things he's ever eaten!

Pork belly can be absolutely delicious, but I always cut off the strip of fat that comes with it because I don't like the flavor or texture. I guess your DS is like me in that he doesn't enjoy the fat (some people do).

Great reviews - I'm glad that so many places were really great, such as Via Napoli and Artist Point. Your reviews definitely have me excited about returning to WDW. :goodvibes

I've enjoyed your reviews so very much. Your family certainly has a great history with visiting Walt Disney World making your reviews so informative.

Thanks for sharing!

Thank You for easing the long wait till October for me, these food/Trip reports Definately help in getting me throught the Time between Vacations. :thumbsup2

Oh my! I'm late for joining but a huge fan of all your reviews. :thumbsup2

Interesting that your Captain's Grill breakfast could have been exactly mine from a few years ago. The service and the food were aweful. But... I decided to give it another try and order off the menu and it was actually good. Go figure! :confused3

Oh, and I'm a fan of AP - especially the portobello mushroom soup! Ahhhhh... soooo delish!

Seeing your La Hacienda photos makes me very eager to go there for the Botana and the taco trio. Mmmmmm....

Thanks for taking the time to share. :)

Glad to be of help!

Excellent reviews, Belle! And the fact that you wrote and posted them all in less than 4 days is truly awe-inspiring to me. :worship:

Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews! AP was our best meal in 2010! DS was only 3 at the time and had been a bit of a problem during any TS we had this trip. Miraculously, we got AP as an early walk up and DS fell asleep right before we went in! :woohoo: DH and I enjoyed a wonderful meal free of any toddler distractions. We especially enjoyed all of the Pacific northwest wine and foods (cheese!) that we are unable to get here in Ontario, Canada. Sadly, the only U.S wine that can be purchased in Ontario is from California. Very good wine, however it was great to experience wine from another region. I would love to now try both Via Napoli and TE, because of your reviews! But our upcoming Aug. trip is "ADR complete" and I'm afraid we will have no time.:sad1:

The Butter Chicken wasn't on the menu at Sanaa when we were there in 2011, either. It is a fantastic addition! I would say that I can't imagine not ordering it next time we visit...I think I've found my "must have" entree at Sanaa!

The Tea at GF is very special! I try to make it there once per vacation.

Loved your awesome reviews and pics, looks like you had an amazing time with your family in the happiest place on earth! :goodvibes Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.

Thank you for following along! We did have such a wonderful time!

I am so addicted to Paciugo! My favorite flavors are the Mediterranean Sea Salt Caramel, Fondente Dark Chocolate and the Italian Trifle.

Fat trimming--I am sure he wishes he would have thought of that! I am glad you followed along with my reviews and I look forward to following your upcoming reviews which will be here in the blink of an eye! Lucky you!

I've enjoyed your reviews so very much. Your family certainly has a great history with visiting Walt Disney World making your reviews so informative.

Our many visits really do influence how we do things and how we look at things! I am so happy you found my reviews informative! Thank you!

Glad to help with the wait-time until October! It will be here before you know it!

Emmysmommy...just returning the favor in writing reviews as I have so enjoyed your in the past! I am glad you were able to finally have a good experience at Captain's Grill, but I think it would be many, many, many years before our family would risk dining there again (we had been once for dinner years ago and had a decent experience but a server with English language difficulties).

Originally, I had a 6 pm ADR for La Hacienda--as I was reading reviews suggesting that you are NOT guaranteed an Illuminations view, etc., so I decided to play it safe and not get our hopes up. Then...I changed my mind and thought since we had already viewed the show so many times what could it hurt to take the gamble and try for the Illuminations view. I am soooo glad we took the chance and would like to suggest that you also try for the seating...not just go for the food. It's the two factors together that can really knock your socks off. Just don't get your own hopes or those of others built up...just in case!

Excellent reviews, Belle! And the fact that you wrote and posted them all in less than 4 days is truly awe-inspiring to me. :worship:

You noticed! Yes, once I started reviewing I couldn't think of much else until I completed them! It's like a cloud of responsibility hanging over my head!;) It has been so nice, jabead, having you ride along and help me! I'll be on the lookout for your next reviews!

Thank you for taking the time to share your reviews with us!:goodvibes

You're welcome!

Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews! AP was our best meal in 2010! DS was only 3 at the time and had been a bit of a problem during any TS we had this trip. Your DS3 falling asleep so you could enjoy a signature meal was a huge blessing! I have no doubts that you will love Via Napoli. It's one of the few restaurants that I feel confident in recommending to almost everyone. Trail's End is different. I can't stress enough, that unless you are staying in FW or WL (where you can catch the boat over), getting there is a bit of a hassle...so you will enjoy it as long as you understand that this is a great option for an "off" day, a lazy day, the day you're going over there to eat lunch (a late one might be good), rent bikes or boats, checking out the gift shop and staying for the Chip and Dale Campfire and Sing-Along (catch a different bus when you are ready to go over there) and the outdoor movie. We no longer have sons young enough for the campfire/movie so our "off" day was different: mini-golf, early lunch, boating from the FW marina. I know you will have a wonderful trip in August as long as you plan for lots of water time and down-time in the heat! Have fun and post your reviews when you return!

Right, I have finally caught up :thumbsup2

Ooh I don't know where to start!

You have totally convinced me to try the Grand Floridian Cafe & Trails End for the first time and I just have to get one of those Mickey shaped muffins from the Boardwalk :cloud9:

The next morning DH drove a Lamborghini Superleggera with the Disney Exotic Driving Experience. Being a "car guy" it was a thrilling experience for him and rewarding for the rest of us to watch him have his moment! This took quite a chunk of time from our morning schedule so we unexpectedly decided to go to Kona Cafe for a late breakfast when the driving experience was finished.

Loving your review so far and I don't want to interrupt.... but my DH is doing the same DEDE on August trip. What did you do during the experience? Do you sit with him, in the stands in a particular area? DD and I were planning to go to Capt Cooks for bfast then head back to watch him drive. What do you suggest?:wizard:
