Nikon question

Until recently I had been saving up towards a Nikon D60, but suddenly it seems like nobody is carrying this model anymore.
Has this model been replaced? From looking around it seems like the D3000 has about the same features (at least at a quick glance), for about the same price. Is this model replacing the D60?
We are heading back to the states in the end of November, and I'm hoping to purchase a camera then. Should I start keeping an eye out for the best deals for the D3000? Or is there another model that is closer to the D60 (I ask because I was the most impressed with the D60, and would like something similar).
Thanks for any help.

I was looking at the D60 myself until the D3000 came out. It is basically taking the place of the D40 and the D60 as the entry-level DSLR camera for Nikon. Right now, you can get the D60 at some retailers for about $549 USD. The D3000 is $600 USD. The D3000 does have some updated features over the D60 including 11 Autofocus points over 3, a somewhat larger LCD screen, and a Guide mode, along with a couple other features I can't think of at the moment. I personally did not see the point of buying a D60 for nearly the same price as the D3000 when it had advantages, even though it is new. Hope that helps some.

Thank you.
Yes that helps a lot. So now I'll start keeping my eyes open for a good deal on the D3000.

I believe alot of folks would also recommend the D40 even though it is older. I know alot of people on here started with or have used a D40 and still love it. I decided to go newer but there are other options.
