Is there such a thing as a D50 anymore or what replaced that? The D40x?

TIA!

Not a Nikon guy, but I belive the D50 was replaced by the D70 and then the D80. I don't know if you can get them new anylonger, but you can still find refurbs around.

The D40 and D40x were cameras they introduced that are on the lower entry level side, to compete with the canon rebel series....

The D50 has been out of production for about a year. It was preceded by the D70 and the D70s and superseded by the D40, D40X and D80. I guess that the D40 would be considered the D50 replacement, although in some ways it was a step backwards. The D80 would not, IMO, be considered to be a D50 replacement, either. Nikon really shifted their lineup beginning about a year ago, and the D50 simply dropped from their lineup. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not but suffice it to say that the D50 is no longer available except as a refurb or used. It *is* an excellent camera, though and in some ways superior to the D40/D40x.

I'm pretty sure it's...

Entry-level: D50, D40, D40x
Mid-level: D70, D70s, D80

The D40 had improvements over the D50, like a bigger, better LCD, but it took away the top LCD and especially the focus motor. I think that if it weren't for the focus motor, the D40 would be much more loved than it is. That's certainly the only thing that holds me back from an unqualified recommendation it to people.
