Nightmare Before Christmas/Haunted Mansion

Has nothing to do with demographics. That's exactly what Disney is doing with the morph from Downtown Disney into Disney Springs. It's also what Disney does every time it unexpectedly renovates a themed pool or entire wing of a resort and sends reserved guests a heads-up letter. The same applies to the ongoing now it's running/now it isn't monorail work. Or any major, walls-up, headliners-down work at any major theme park anywhere. Disney is no different. The only additional reason they may be reticent to do overlays is crowding, since talking headliners down can increase crowding, especially during peak times.

But all of the changes you describe are much more long-term changes. I'm not saying that they necessarily "care" that changing an attraction would impact the visitors negatively; It's more that they don't see spending money on a seasonal overlay as something that will drive guests to the park, thus there is no point in doing it. It doesn't affect the customer base the way it does at DL, where overlays drive huge crowds to those attractions. There is really just no up side to doing it at WDW.

Sadly things are often more boring at WDW than DL because of that. We'll have to go to DL sometime
