Night before a cruise... which resort?

Trying to decide which resort to stay at the night before a cruise and the night after. We have a goal of eventually trying all the resorts, so this is a great chance to cross two more off the list! We are also a family of five, which limits us normally, but it's just me and hubby going so we can do a room we couldn't normally do with the kids.

So I was thinking AKL and WL, because they are four person rooms and we can't stay there with the kids. But how much is the construction going to affect WL next summer?

Or should we do the most expensive resorts since it's one night each and easier to justify the cost vs. a whole week? Decisions, decisions... :)

We stayed at Contemporary the night before our cruise. But we chose it based on its proximity to MK (we went to MVMCP the night before). We also wanted to go to Ohana for breakfast before the bus came so the monorail was nice.

Honestly, we did the Four Points by Sheraton for our Disney cruise; it's in Port Canaveral. The room slept 5, had a restaurant, and was connected to the Ron Jon surf shop.
I wanted to just have a place to sleep and be early to the port. It worked out wonderful!
We rented from Budget (I think) at the airport, then my DH dropped us off early and dropped the car off in Port Canaveral. We were among the first to board the ship! Like, after the repeat guests and suite people but really early! My kids wore their suits under their clothes so were in the pool immediately while we got something to snack on and checked out the ship!

We usually try to stay at the Beach Club or The BoardWalk before & after our Disney cruises. Love the area, Great Dining & it's walking distance to EPCOT. ::yes::

Haha, we have the same question.

Right now we are booked at AoA for the 2 nights before the cruise and AKL for the 2 nights after....but I'm considering replacing AoA with AKL and then doing GF RPC the last two nights since...it's ONLY 2 nights... :)

I haven't been following the WL construction, but I think it's supposed to go through 2016, so it will probably be in full swing next summer. If construction would be an issue for you, I'd go with AKL and either the Poly or GF. The Poly is our favorite, but the GF runs a very close second. Both have beautiful grounds, great pools, and great dining options. You will also be a quick monorail ride away from the CR for other dining choices. Good luck and have a great trip :wizard:.

Because we are visiting parks we are staying at AoA before and after our cruise this time. I was worried we would not have enough time for resort exploration and park time on this trip so I chose the same resort for before and after. Last year we just stayed at the Country Inn and Suites near the port. They had rooms with bunkbeds and offered a shuttle/parking rate for us as well. Parking for our three night cruise, our room the night before, and the shuttle to and from the port was less than $200 and the hotel included a decent hot breakfast.

I want to stay at every resort too and next year am doing 1 night at AoA pre cruise and then Boardwalk after, so thats another 2 ticked off :) last time I did SSR pre and AKL post

We stayed at POR for one night after a cruise. Since we weren't doing the parks, we found the boat to DTD to be perfect since we spent most of our time at DTD and the resort pool.

Are you going to the parks? And when are you arriving? AKL would be great so you can enjoy the resort also would recommend Boardwalk since there is lots of stuff in and around the resort to do. Beach Club is another option if you want to utilize their mini waterpark there. My husband and I did the Disney Cruise about 2 years ago for my 30th birthday and we stayed at the Hyatt in the airport simply because we were arriving late enough that we wanted some place that was just easy. We just got up in the morning and went to the Disney Cruise line area like we would have if we had arrived by plane. Made us the first bus full of people that arrived at the terminal (and then a long wait to get onto the ship lol).

We choose to do this at WL for this year. We are staying the day construction is scheduled to start so I hope they end up at least one day behind. I chose it because it has the most on resort activities. We arrive around 10am and are renting a car so we will have most of the day. I wouldn't have been able to justify the cost except it's one night (and it's my birthday).
Since construction will be an issue next summer I might take at look at the cabins at Ft. Wilderness which would have plenty of stuff to do and have room for 5. The main negative I found looking at the cabins was the pool looked pretty boring so if you want to use a better pool than I would go with AKL.
