My husband won a trip to Universal, 2 day 2 park passes and 2 nights at Nickelodeon Hotel. We are Disney people and this will be our first time at Universal. It will just be the 2 of us, we are in our 40's and love rides.

Looking for advise, we live about 3 hrs away, so we will leave on a Friday for the weekend. We have until Oct 1st to use the tickets and Labor Day is out b/c we will be out of town. How is the hotel, it seems very kid oriented, but it is for free and we will probably be at the parks most of the time. I understand Universal has something similar to fast passes like Disney, but I think you have to stay at a park hotel. I thought Nickelodeon was, but as I research I don't think it is.

What would be a recommendation on what to do at the parks, and what not to miss. Any tips you have for first timers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jeannie

The Nickelodeon is not an onsite hotel and so you are not eligible for the express passes. September is a very quiet time and you should be easily able to experience everything at the parks. There are lots of great restaurants too. Make sure to eat at Mythos!

Thanks! I was wondering when the best time to go would be. The only downside to Sept is that the parks close at 6pm, I am surprised so early!!

August looks better time wise, but I think it will be busier with kids still in school. So we have to decide to go when it is less busy with early closings or opened later,(but only till 8 or 7) with crowds.

It closes early because the parks are empty by that time. You'll be surprised at how low the crowd levels are.

if you go to the trip report forums, there are two trippies that have pics of the nick hotel and statements about that hotel.

wressing (sp?) is one of the posters.
the other i forget the name but it is current.

Well I guess we should probably go in September, thanks for the advise and I will look up the other posts.
