Nick Studios New Splat

My son's "wish" is to be slimed while we are at US. Particularly on Slime Time Live, which I know won't happen because they don't film in FL in the summer.

I just learned of a new Nick show called Splat. Since I won't know until a week out from our trip (which is late this month) if the slime will be pre-arranged by our MAW coordinator, I am trying to decide where I should focus my energy in making sure he does get slimed. (i.e., contact US guest relations or someone we know who has a contact at US vs. waiting for our MAW itinerary).

Has anyone participated in SPLAT or other Slime-oriented attraction that can tell me about it? The Aud. participation line says only guests 10& up - do they make exceptions??

It's been 10+ years since I've been to UA and things have probably changed.

Also, are there any other "special" things that I might try arranging for our day at US or IOA?

What is a MAW coordinator?

MAW = Make a Wish, a wish-granting organization that grants wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses (including kids with Cancer, since it's life threatening, even though medical advances have increased survival rates). Usually the kids that go to Orlando stay at Give Kid's the World (GKTW) and the emphasis of the trip tends to be more on WDW than US (at least that impression I've been given).

So I want to make sure that I have all my research done so my son can get slimed, regardless of whether it is pre-planned by the organization or by me.

I would contact a manager at guest services ~ let them know you are coming up on a MAW trip & then ask about getting into Slime Time Live or the new Splat. I'm sure they would be more than happy to help.
Besides, like Mom always said, it never hurts to ask !

Even though the show is not being filmed they do bring people into the NICK studios and play a game with kids picked out of the audience. Then they bring out a kid who wanted to get slimed and put them in a baby pool or something in the middle of the floor and pour a bucket of slime on them. I have seen this every trip. Make sure to check out the big slime machine outside the building when it goes off. I am sure if you contact guest services they will arrange this for you (be sure to tell them this is a MAW trip). I think that is too funny that his wish is to be slimed. That would be about the last thing I would wish for! I hope you have the best time ever.

I would also ask your contact at US and your MAW coordinator to try to arrange something for your son. It never hurts to be double or in this case, triple covered!

As for just leaving it to chance, we have done both summer slime live and the regular nick game. For summer slime live, we waited in line in the morning (for several hours) to get tickets and then returned in the evening to another line to attend the taping. When they handed out the tickets in the morning, a few people received a different color. In the evening, they called all the people with the "x" colored tickets over to a different corner, where they had all the release paperwork ready to be signed. These were the people who were selected to do the games and get slimed. It seemed completely random, although they were also actually looking for families they thought would perform well on tv. A family in front of us got the "special" tickets (we were the third family in line) and some families way down the line got some. My kids were pretty disappointed because they really wanted to get in that slime machine

As for the regular daily game, out of all the kids there, only one gets selected to be slimed. The odds of being selected in either venue seemed pretty low.

So, if you have other avenues to help better the odds, definitely go for it. Call guest services yourself, tell anybody who has any connection with US and have your MAW coordinators working their end. If it is a wish, one would hope that Universal would go out of its way to grant it!

As for the age restrictions, when we did summer slime live, they were pretty emphatic of the over 10 rule. Our 6 year old was very tall for his age, but no go. His brother and sister got to sit on camera, but he had to stay with dad in the audience area.

Thanks for the answer about MAW. I have heard of the organization, just never saw it abbreviated.

I didn't know about the age thing. I think that stinks. It has been my experience that most of the kids who are diehard NICK fans are younger than 10. Those 10 & older are starting to lose interest in cartoons. (although I am WAY over 10 and still love to watch, heheheheh!!!)

My apologies, I don't think I made myself clear. Yes, the 10 year age limit was strictly enforced for the on-camera kids. But the younger kids will have a great opportunity to witness the event. Our 6 year old was allowed to stay in line with us and as we filed indoors (lightning caused us to tape in the studio rather than out by the the slime machine) - my two older children and myself headed left where we sat on bleachers, making a "u" behind the game set-ups. My husband and 6 year old headed to the "sibling" viewing area. They had set up several rows of fold-up chairs right in front of the set. The people with tickets with kids younger than 10 were the only ones allowed in the audience. So they literally had a "front row" view of what was going on.

I think the outdoor set was not quite as accomodating, as they told us that if we filmed outdoors, the siblings would have to stand right behind the cameras to watch. Don't know many details, but as we left the studio, they were seating the second taping in the outdoor set. I remember thinking, "wow, we got the much better deal."

So. if Splat follows any of the same procedures of Summer Slime Live, your younger children won't have a problem witnessing the event. And I would tell guest services that you do have younger siblings who want to witness it and make sure they are accomodated as well.

Well, we have no siblings...just a "will-be" seven year old that wants nothing more than to be slimed!! He will be upset to learn he will only be in the audience with no chance what so ever to be picked.

I don't get the age thing. It certainly can't be for safety reasons (like riding the hulk, for example). Again, most kids "into" NICK are younger than 10.... And, if it is because they don't think a younger kid (say 5-9) would be "good" in front of a camera, well that is just bologna....I have seen many 5 year olds ham it up just fine. I think it is silly to set the age limit that high!

rjmom- I would still tell them that this is your son's (even if he is under 10) "wish" and I bet they will do something for you. Hope you have the best time ever!

As has been said before, make sure you contact Guest Services and the MAW coordinator. They have been known to do many things that the average guest doesn't get. Often it's private meet & greets with characters. Who knows, they might even be able to set up a private session where your son does get slimed. Just keep in contact...

We were on Splat on July 13th. We went to US at 8:45, went to the Mummy, then went to eat breakfast at Boulangere(sp?) after eating we saw a character across the street,Bandicoot?, went over there, asked my daugher if she wanted autograph and picture, NO, but the CM that was talking with a microphone mentioned the Splat show and she wanted to do that, asked CM , he said there was a man by the ATM machine by the restrooms giving out tickets for the show--here we go --he said children 10 and up , we get tickets for daughter and DH and me for audience, the players had already been picked. Be there at 4:30, stay from 5 till 7 for taping , and possibley get messy. We got slimed!
