Nick Hotel Question

Last year we sent dh to Universal and IOA for his birthday and had a one day with transportation ticket. Is is necessay to pay for transportation at the Nick Hotel. I think I've read that you can take a shuttle bus?

Has anyone done this or should I stick with the Mears ticket?
How accomodating is it?

Any other Nick hotel advice is welcome! We are heading there for our last two days but still want to use our Disney tickets.

I can confirm in 6 days when I'm there, but I'm pretty sure the "resort fee" of $28.xx you pay is to cover shuttle transportation to all the theme parks. I have read that it is only once or twice a day though
