Hi!
We just got back from 10 days at Nick Hotel! I thought I would share some things that may be helpful to those preparing for a trip.
POOLS
There are 2 pool areas. The larger pool is called the Lagoon. The large waterslides are here. They do not go into the pool. There is also putt putt, shuffleboard, and basketball. The other pool area is called the Oasis. It is smaller. It has 2 slides that go into the pool. It also has toddler area, and play area with sand. My kids, DS 11 and DD 9 loved both pools.
ROOMS
We had a 3 bedroom,2 bath, with a spongebob theme. My 82 year old DF had one king bed room and bath with a vanity area next to it. My Dh and I also had a king room with nice vanity area in the bedroom (with hair dryer!) The kids had bunkbeds. They are smaller than twin size. My DD9 (who is only 4 ft.) took the top. She was fine. But my DS 11 who is 5 ft. and 100 pounds had to put the mattress on the floor to sleep. Because of the curtain and no door the kids could hear things from the living room area. A white noise machine would have helped greatly. The king beds are HARD as a rock! Not comfy! Also, if you have a special pillow bring it with you! They give you alot of pillows but none are great.
FOOD
The food was all very good and I thought priced reasonably. There is room service for breakfast and dinner. We had to call for dinner menu. Same prices as in restaraunt. We did one character breakfast and ate at the dinner buffet a couple of times. Food was always good. Waitresses were fair(actually one was very bad!) to good. There is a seperate breakfast buffet area than the character one- We did not eat there. I think the price was $10 and kids 12 & under free. The character breakfast was $18 and kids free. I made resis before arriving. There is also Pizza Hut, A&W, And Sub and Salad place. All good. (except the chicken sandwich at A&W). Chicken strips were good. One note lunch is not served until 11am. (Only was an issue the first day we arrived since we had been up since 4am). There is also grill and drink area at Lagoon pool.
GAMES
We were not informed about being picked for the games at check in, so it took us awhile to realize the following about being on a team for the shows.
Sun- Thursday there are 2 slime shows in the studio at 6pm and 7:15. On Friday and Sat. there is also a 5pm show. The Who knows best show is 8:30 and 9:15. The slime shows have 2 teams each with 4 family members. The TEAM CAPTAIN of the winning team gets slimed! The TEAM CAPTAIN from other team can be pied or pie one adult on their team. (the teams must have one adult). To be on the teams for these shows you HAVE to be at the LAGOON pool between 3pm-4pm. Some days they signed up first come until they had all the families needed. (4-6 families per night for the slime show, and 4 couples, adult and child, for who knows best).
One time they had the kids one per family play hot potato to pick the families. (This was new years so extra shows) They needed 12 families. Of course my DD was the last to be called out- even though the music had stopped on the child prior to her. She was very upset.
We finally did get to be a team on the slime show later in the week. My DS was captain and he got slimed! They were very good at trying to also include my DD backstage while he cleaned up. They let her touch the slime. But later when she realized we had no more options to be in the show again she was upset.
Lesson: If you want in the show as team be at the Lagoon between 3-4pm and when you see the nick staff in green shirts GET OVER TO THEM!! to sign up.
POOL SIDE GAMES
At the lagoon pool there are games at 11:30 and 1:30. The kids alll gather in the pool and nick staff pick kids out of the pool to play. Depending on the games, a couple of kids get pied and up to 12 get slimed- but at the pool it is really green water dumped on them. My ds was chosen 4 times during the week to play and dd twice. Neither got pied or slimed at the pools.
At the Oasis pool there are games at 12:30 and 2:30. They may get pied but no slime at this pool.
What to do if child is not pied or slimed.. (If you have 2 kids you will understand..)
I guess I was under the impression before arriving that the kids would definatly be slimed and pied. NOT SO!!
However, the day before leaving I talked with a game manager and she arranged to have my dd pied (for free). DD was in the arcade and I told her the nick people were looking for her. She walked out and the nick staff made a big announcement that Katie had been there a week and he had not had a chance to get her messy! She was so happy!
They also offer a private sliming in the studio with game hosts(no games-Just make a big deal for the kid) for $175 per child!! I declined on this option!! This is not advertised- you have to schedule with game manager.
BUSES
It took me awhile to catch on to this. It worked ok to take the buses to the parks and sometimes on the way back to hotel. just note that the bus returning from Magic Kingdom takes 45- 50 minutes. It stops at all 4 parks.
You can use shuttle to get to one park and then use Disney transportation. I heard the bus driver at hotel tell one family to wait one hour for another shuttle to MK instead of going to epcot and then use monorail. Also, first trip to use shuttles so had to learn you stand in middle of bus parking lot at the assigned number.
Taxis
The taxis contracted to hotel are about $4-5 more than other taxis.
NICK PICTURES
I did not know about this- nothing was said at checkin. They have people taking pictures at various places- games, characters, pools etc. For $50 you can buy the CD which holds up to 250 pictures! So try to get alot of pictures so you can get your moneys worth! They did not take many pictures of my kids but they did take pictures of the sliming of ds which were great! If I had realized I would have talked to them when I saw them out taking pictures. By the way, One picture cost $25.
Miscellaneous
Rooms were quiet! Not alot of hotel noise. We were on the 3rd floor facing slides at lagoon pool and the putt putt area. I would think some of the first floor rooms could be noisy. They had offered us a room first floor by the basketball courts. I was afraid it would be noisy.
Alot of smoking, including cigars, all over the place -even at pool entrances- ugh! (sorry smokers!)
Laundry great! $1.50 for washer and $1 for dryer which dried in one cycle!!
The shampoo is fair- I would bring my own- esp. if u like conditioner.
Let me know if any questions. I will try to post pictures.

How would you compare the Nick Hotel 3 bedroom suite say to 2 value resorts at WDW? We stayed in a 2 bedroom kidsuite in 2001 and we loved it. Now we have 6 in our family and I just don't care for the value resorts at Disney, and I can't see spending the money on 2 moderate or 2 luxury resorts at WDW.

Do they offer free lifevests at the pools like Disney does? What age do you think the water slides are for?

Is there a list of the prices? Do they have different prices for different seasons like the WDW resorts? Are there any discounts?

TIA.

Mary

Thank you so so so much for that very thorough explanation of the hotel. We are possibly going in May...we have 2 extra days before our L/S package starts, so we're toying with the idea of staying there or at a moderate resort in DW. If we do go, I plan on printing out your post as a reference for us!! :teeth:

I can't wait to see pics you took!

Lisa

Hi!
I have not stayed at Disney's value resorts so I really don't know how it would compare. The 3 bedroom at nick is about 940sq.
There are free life vests at both pool areas. I think a child has to be 40 inch to go on the slides. There are alot of water areas for smaller kids. The lagoon pool is zero depth entry and has water sprays etc.
There are various rates for different times. They take AAA and AARP(senior)and there are no cancel rates.
Also, the nick gift shop takes AAA on purchases.

Thanks for your report. We'll be there in less than a month!

In your opinion, what ages are the shows good for? I have an 8 y.o., 4 and 3.

Thanks! :sunny:

Hi!
All three of your kids will enjoy the shows! They did pick some of the younger kids at the pool shows. The family show we did, the other family had a 4 year old on the team. Their 7 year old was the captain and he ended up pieing(sp)
his mom. The audience also participates in the family shows. - They threw out large beach balls and people hit them back up to stage- another time the audience passed balloons up to team captains to pop. there was also another game where an adult and 2 kids were picked from each side of the audience.

Hi!
Yes, We were there Dec.30-Jan 8th. It was very warm everyday except one.
The water was heated and was warm. The day it was cold out my DD swam for a few minutes but said the water slides were too cold. They did move the pool games inside that day.

Thanks for the great report. The info will come in handy when we stay there at the end of next month. Eventhough we were there last yr, so much has changed, ie. both pool areas open, pictures and CD and the Nick games.
Really appreciate the updated info. :flower:

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a wonderfully detailed review of the Nick hotel. We stayed there once a few years ago before it was Nick and now we'll be staying again for 2 nights after our cruise on Jan. 22 & 23.

It was so helpful to read your info about the games, especially posting the times of games and when to "try out". My question is, what do people wear for these games and how do you get cleaned up afterwards? I know my dd9 would LOVE this, but I am not sure how dh, dd13 or myself would feel about doing the family game.

Did you actually participate?

This post just has me more pumped for our trip to Nick Hotel the first week of April!!! I can't wait! I have printed out the OP's post and am using it to help plan our agenda. I sure hope it is really warm in April...

For those of you who stayed at Nick and have stayed on-site - which was easier? We've always stayed on-site - but with 6 in the family like an earlier poster we are wondering about the Nicksuites - Our 2 middle dc think it looks neat. Where did you buy Disney tickets - we've always gotten ours with our rooms? Are there discount tickets or pkgs through the Nick hotel?

For us it was easier to stay on-site, esp when the kids were younger and we stayed at a monorail hotel (the Poly) or at the WL. That said, we loved staying at the Nick (or Holiday Inn Family Suites as it was previously).
For us, having our own bedroom for DH and I, was fabulous and worth staying offsite. Staying all together in one regular room seems cramped and the lack of privacy bothered DH and I. Also, I have gotten good deals staying there....mostly through Holiday Inn frequent stay points. We are staying there again at the end of next month and can't wait to go back.

I have purchased tickets though Mousesavers by joining their newsletter and using a discount from one of their prefered vendors/businesses. They have a link with the newsletter. I have been happy with the service I received.

Thanks so much for your info. I didn't know about the pictures. I am a big scrapbooker and I am glad to know about the CD of pictures. I'll be sure to track down that photgrapher!

Thanks again! :goodvibes

Thank you for all the info. We are spending a weekend there in a month ans haven't been able to find out a lot of details about the shows and such. This is very helpful.

what is the actual name of the hotel so I can look it up? Can any suites accommodate 7? We have DH and I, 3 kiddos, and DH's parents. We ned a good hotel for 2 nights before our RCCL cruise, but want a bit of Disney magic too. We are trying to keep cost down, but not bare boned...

Thanks for all the great information. We are spending 5 days at the Nick Hotel the first week of February. My kids are so excited to stay at "SpongeBobs House"! We are planning on eating breakfast in the room since my kids are really picky eaters. What is included in the kitchen? Do we need to bring our own plates, bowls, silverware? I read that there was a coffeemaker in the room. Do they provide coffee, sugar, etc or do you need to bring your own?

Thanks for your help
Beth

Sue,
The Nick hotel site is www.nickhotel.com The full name is Nickelodeon Family Suites by Holiday Inn. The 3 bedroom is about 940 sq. feet. Plenty of room! A king BR next to kids room and another king bedroom and bath on opposite side.- You walk in to the suite the first room is the living and dining area. and the full kitchen. to the right is bathroom, vanity area, and a king bedroom. To the left is a living room and a bathroom. Then there is the kids' room and the other king bedroom. The kids room is small. Has "bunk size" bunk beds and a pull out bed from the wall. The living room has a full size sleeper couch.

Beth,
All of the dishes, utensils, cooking stuff was supplied. One note there was only a stove top not an oven. The coffe maker was the small 4 cup- but they sent us an extra one so we could make 2 pots at one time. They supplied the coffee, sugar etc. in the little packets.(but my DH always brings his own coffe and sweetn low). We did ask the maid for extra supply of plastic cups. They supply the dish soap and also dishwasher soap. And quess what?!! The maid always LOADED and STARTED the dishwasher everyday!!

Beth,

We are going to be there Feb 2-5. Are you going to be there at the same time? How old are your kids? I have two boys who are 8 and 5 and a girl who is 3.
