Has anyone stayed at the Nick Hotel? I'm considering going for DS 12th bday, but reviews on trip advisor aren't that great. We would have to fly (from NC) because we'd only come for a few days and want to make the most of the time. Plus we'd probably do Universal if HP world is open (May 2010, it should be open right?). It would cost us quite a bit, wondering if it's worth it?

And could I really be in Orlando and not do a day at Disney? Maybe I could finally have my solo day in MK that I've always wanted (DH and DS are Disneyed out) :).

Might be wrong , but the Nick Hotel is quite a bit away from Universal. If you where planning just Universal i would definetly stay closer to The parks.

Here's a link to my trip report if you are interested in all the details. We stayed there about 1 1/2 years ago and thought it was fine. As long as you know what to expect and are not expecting a 5 star I think you will enjoy. My trippie has a great deal of detail, so check it out. Nickelodeon was our first stop in Florida, so that part is toward the beginning.

I haven't stayed at the Nick hotel, but did consider it a few times. What I would recommend doing is staying at one of the onsite Uni hotels. They are fabulous and if you stay onsite you get FOTL (like fastpass) all day long. There isn't a better way to spend a birthday than to have FOTL (fastpasses) all day for as many times as you would like to ride. That is what we are doing for our DD's 11th birthday. The resorts also have great pools and you can just come and go as you please between the hotel/pool and the parks. It is a truly no pressure vacation if you stay onsite. :lovestruc

Stayed there the second week of December last year for a couple of nights. We didn't travel to Universal, only Disney. I think the hotel is nice. The best part being the second bedroom for the kids. We had a room right next to the pool. They must have designed these rooms to eliminate some of the sounds because you hear very little noise from the pool.
If it is too cold to swim then there is really not much to do there. It is a nice change of pace from Disney for a day or two.

We have 3 boys 14, 11, and 7 and I can tell you they would MUCH rather stay onsite at a Universal Hotel one night and get two days of unlimited front of the line access than stay at the nick hotel for the water slides and have to stand in line waiting for their favorite rides :D

Me and my younger brother stayed there when I was 11 and he was 9, and he loved it. The only thing I remember was the horrid drive from the hotel to the park. :scared1:

I should have explained that DS doesn't like thrill rides or anything he deems "creepy". So I don't think there will be much at US that appeals to him other than HP world, and he loves HP, so I hope they don't make it too creepy. That's why I was thinking that staying at Nick and visiting US would be OK.

Not sure what you/he considers "thrill rides", but at IoA he should enjoy Spiderman and all of Seuss landing in addition to WWoHP. At US, there are few thrill rides. Excluding Revenge of the Mummy and HR3, I'd expect he'd have a great time with all of the remaining rides and attractions.

I'd recommend staying at the Royal Pacific onsite.

The Nick hotel is definately NOT a place my family will ever go back to! We've stayed there once before- and it was starting to have the 'run down' feel to it. The beds were not comfy and it's far away from Universal. Luckily we only stayed there for a short stay and moved over to Royal Pacific.

The Nick hotel is not CLOSE to the fun that Royal Pacific and the Universal hotels are (and it can be just as expensive)...my kids actually had more fun at RPR.

Wait and see...I bet he'll fall in love with IoA as so many others have. There are plenty of things he can do other than WWoHP.

I just booked our third trip to Nick today. We have enjoyed our stays there. We are also staying at HRH, but just for one night in order to get the FOTL pass. With Nick at $79/nt and HRH at $422/nt, we couldn't afford to stay any more than that. We haven't had any problems at Nick, and the extra room is great. Good luck with your decision.

We just booked for a second time to the Nick Hotel. Kids are 7 and 6 and really enjoyed it last time 2 years ago. They are swimmers now so it should be even better. We didn't have any problems with the hotel when we went last time.
