Our trip to WDW is less than 3 weeks away and I was really struggling with money (who isn't, right?). I had downgraded our resort and tickets but we were still going by golly.

Well, I opened my mailbox today and there was a $609.00 settlement check from the Countrywide Mortgage class action lawsuit that I had forgotten I was even a part of :cool1:!!! What a nice surprise!!

I have been a part of large class action suits against other companies in the past but only got a $4.00 check from one and $1 something from another :lmao: so I NEVER expected $609.00!!

What a relief!

How is it that you are finding yourself involved in so many class action lawsuits?

I'm in them because I don't opt out of them.

Just got notice of another one involving Farmers Insurance yesterday. I do business with big companies so it's not uncommon...lot's of sue happy people out there and if it becomes a class action, every customer is notified and can then choose to opt out or stay in.

Expedia, Costco, State Farm are just a few in the past few years. I really don't pay that much attention...I just cash the checks :thumbsup2.

I got a check from them, too. But mine was only $69. I'd be doing backflips over $600!

I just got one the other day for Verizon Wireless and some class action that will gain you 25 extra minutes. The reasoning for the suit in the first place seemed entirely baseless, but here we are. The stupidest one I ever was involved with was for computer monitor sizes. They used to advertise 17" when the reality was it was 16.75" inches. Apparently someone felt that rounding error should result in millions of dollars awarded to... ummm... well the lawyers. But we got a coupon for $5 off our NEXT monitor purchase.

The only people that benefit are usually the lawyers, which is enough reason for them to occur.

I did have a very expensive car repair, and just a few hundred miles beyond my warranty too. It turns out there was a class action lawsuit because Acura / Honda used an incorrect calculation to determine the miles in the odometer. Every mile was off by a few inches. Because of this your warranty was extended several hundred miles, and the car repair was suddenly covered. So I guess some good does come of them, even though the original issue is usually insignificant.

wow! congratulations, OP! i wish i could get a check from that HP printer class action lawsuit i joined last year!

Very cool. :)

I got a replacement computer for the one I had that died. It wasn't nearly as nice as the one I had, but I had all but written off getting anything done about it when the suit came out. I was thrilled. :)

When I was 20 I quit a job with a major fashion retail business 2 days after they filed for bankruptcy. Apparently my resignation wasn't processed in time, because a year later I got a $800 cheque for lost wages and severance pay.

OP, enjoy your windfall. :goodvibes

Would anyone who had a Countrywide mortgage and didn't opt out be getting a check? Is there a particular time frame? $609 could be the downpayment on our next Disney vacation! :thumbsup2

We qualified and didn't opt out either so I'll be watching the mail this week...

Did anyone else file in the DeBeers diamond one?

I don't know the answer, sorry. My understanding is that the suit was for mortgage loans during a certain time and it was based on they way that they were charging interest...but don't quote me on that. I shamefully admit I really don't pay very close attention to the "fine details" that are mailed to me.

Good luck!

I did the debeers one but last time I checked nothing was settled yet. We got some cash this year from a faulty siding class action suit several years ago. Didn't cover much of what we have spent on repairs but it's better than nothing.

I did some googling- not that I really know how to research this stuff- but I found one for investors and one for homeowners who had been foreclosed on.

So unless there's another one, we don't qualify- even though DH got a loan during that period from them that was awful.

Someone is watching over you! what a relief that must be! bless your heart!

I was awarded $30 a while back from Hotwore class action. We are i nvolved in another but can't remember what it was for . Got the message for it and didn't opt out like OP haven't heard anything since .. like I said don't remember what it was even for. Who knows maybe some day I will get a nice surprise too.

Good for you OP I always joke about "the big check" that I am waiting to arrive in the mail. It would be cool to open my mail and actually have one!

Yes, that was definitely some much needed pixie dust. My oldest son graduated from high school in June and Disney is "our" place as a family so I am surprising him with this trip. He totally pulled at my heart strings the night before graduation when he gave me a hug and said, "It's too bad that we didn't get to go to Disney World one last time as a family before I go off to college on the other side of the country." :sad1:

He thinks we are flying to Wisconsin to move him into his dorm...partly true....just taking a slight detour through Orlando :lmao:!! I'm hoping to keep it a secret as long as possible. The bright yellow DME luggage tags might let the mouse out of the bag!

I know eh. When I read your thread, I got overwhelmed because I remember how I felt earlier today. It's been financially tough for us over the last few months, and our condo just flooded and I am still trying to figure out how I will manage financially to deal with that.

THEN a miracle happened this morning. I got an email from someone who IS buying a saddle I had for sale online for over a year :woohoo: so thats going to be my only money available for a trip that is coming up in a couple months to Disney. We are in the same boat sister. Let's share the dust.

Was this from Countrywide's employees selling our personal information? It happened to us and we received 2 years of free credit monitoring. Then we were sold to BOA. I knew there'd be a lawsuit, but I never signed anything...did you? :confused3

This suit was based on interest/fees that were being charged incorrectly.
