Hello,

I know there's a current thread about less expensive restaurants near DVC Hilton Head, but I'm wondering if any of you can suggest some nicer, sit-down restaurants for hubby and I to enjoy a quiet romantic dinner.

Thanks!

We recently went to Charleston's which is right near the resort (about 5 minutes) and it was wonderful. they had an early bird speicla which for 12.95 got you soup or salda and wonderful entree and a dessert. Hopefully, they will still have the early bird in the summer. Do not go to guiseppi's pizza place. We had a bad experience. They burned our first pizza and it took them about 30 minutes to get our second out. No discount or even any real apology was offered.

Unfortunatly I have not been to HH in several years. However, there are several nice resturants. My favoirte is at the base of the light house in Sea Pines. (I can't remember the name, but I am sure the front desk knows which one I am talking about!) Try to time your dinner for sunset. Great view!

I think the restaurant by the lighthouse is called Cafe Europa. We ate there and liked it very much. But it's a big, bustling restaurant, not a quiet one. That's the problem with many of the good restaurants on the island, actually.

The restaurant that we really liked is called Charlie's L'Etoile Verte. It's a small place, and doesn't bother advertising in the many guide books, so most people probably haven't heard of it. The food and service were wonderful, they had a huge, reasonably priced wine list. In fact we thought the whole meal was a bargain.

It's located in one of the many strip malls on the highway. This one is just a little past the entrance to the Shelter Cove marina, and across the street. You can see a sample menu at http://www.hiltonheaddlc.com/charliemenu.htm

Our favorite is "Le Bistro" in Pineland Terrace shopping area. It's mediterranean (whatever that is) food; the fish dishes are wonderful. If you like Mussells, they have an excellent appetizer steamed in white wine/garlic sauce. I order it as an entre with a side dish of pasta. Also have fabulous braised lamb shanks. It's crowded and noisy, but nicely decorated and outstanding service. We also like Alexander's across the highway in Palmetto Dunes.

The Old Fort and Hudson's are reputed to be very nice.
We like Kamura's Steak House, for Japaneese style cooking at the table where you sit.
Many will recommend the Old Oyster Factory.
For an upscale lunch, go down to Harbour Town and eat at the golf club - public welcome.

Sue and I like Kingfishers, but some others don't for various reasons. We had a great meal there following our wedding and they have a great "romantic" atmosphere with the live music.

Fine Dining
  1. Old Fort Pub
  2. Sunset Grill
  3. Fitzgerald's
  4. Charlie's (french something), near DVC
  5. Alexander's, near DVC
  6. Charleston's
  7. Santa Fe, near DVC
  8. Captain's table
  9. Cafe Europa

For good seafood, with a wonderful view over the water, The Old Oyster Factory is a good choice. It's about 10 minutes drive from DVC although you can actually see the lights of DVC from the restaurant ( it's on the opposite side of the inlet to DVC) . It would get my vote for the quiet romantic venue.

I will second the Charlies recommendation - it is a nice change from the typical resort seafood joint like most others are. In the same little "mall" is Santa Fe Cafe which is one of the best Southwestern restaurants I've ever been to...both have a romantic atmosphere as well. (it's just across the main highway from the entrance to Shelter Cove)

We thoroughly enjoyed Harbormasters which is walkable from Disney in the Shelter Cove area. Also, don't forget about a private affair with Chef Gordon for a wonderful dining experience at the Beach House.

Hilton Head Island sure has a lot of quality restaurants, doesn't it? All of that competition means that the bad ones don't stay in business too long.

In addition to the recommendations already posted:

1) Antonio's - Wexford
2) Brick Oven Cafe (Not well known-great place)
3) Charlie's Crab - Our favorite!!
4) Kingfisher
5) Chart House
6) For a seafood buffet - Westin resort

On the casual side, don't miss Wild Wing Cafe if you like finger foods, soups and sandwiches. It's tough to beat for lunch or casual dinner.

We will be there in less than 2 weeks!! Have a great visit!
