Could someone explain this to me?

My sister just booked 2 rooms at POP in December and the rate is 60% off rack. She and BIL are using their FREE tickets and getting companions for her kids and our parents. They were going to go OOP for food.

Does this just allow them to purchase DDP, in whatever form they wish, without having to also purchase a 1 day base ticket?

Yes, you can get the DDP added on without having to make it a traditional package. The new code for this is the one that allows the military to add the DELUXE dining plan (the one with the 3 meals/night). Tell her to call and ask about adding whichever plan she is interested in!

Is this military only or will it apply to DoD Civilians like SOG does? My DH has a DoD ID - not a military ID. Just wondering if this would work for us.

Thanks!

Wow - Kinda surprised that they finally came to their senses and added it on.. I had sent them an email asking why months ago - glad it was changed and glad that my big family trip isn't until December

Call and ask, but I don't believe your DH will qualify. They have pretty strict rules for this offer. I called to see if my FIL would qualify. He is perm disabled, and has full military benefits, but he did not retire from the army... and the answer was no. Here is a link to information about the offer at Mousesavers.com: http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwtixdiscounts.html#military

Yes, we came back on 8/15 and purchased the DDP without having to buy a ticket.

Somethign else to think about is that if you have an under 10 kid who would rather eat as a Disney adult, they will let you upgrade that child if you are booking the military deal, since it is not tied to tickets, and you are paying more money.

We booked that for my DD who is 7 but has very adult taste preferences.

So for a military family thru mid-December you have a choice of:

1.) Shades of Green + Buy Your Own Food + Military Salute Tickets

OR

2.) Disney Resort + Free Dining Plan + Standard Tickets

OR

3.) Disney Resort with 40% Discount + Not Free Dining Plan + Military Salute Tickets

????????? Man this is confusing!

Is it possible to stay at, say the Polynesian, at 40% off with Free Dining and use the Military Salute?

Thanks!

No, you have to pick one discount or special or the other, you can't get both. We had originally booked CSR for 4 nights at 40% off plus paid dining and using our leftover days on our salute tickets but when I did the math on the free dining deal, it was actually cheaper in the long run to pay rack rate, get free dining and buy one day base tickets for all of us (2 adults, 1 child). We won't use the one day tickets on this trip, but we will hold them and upgrade to use on a future visit. The free dining package is costing us $145 more than the 40% off, but we're also getting $242 worth of tickets for only $145 more.

Just wanted to add that if you decide to go with the free dining, you only have to buy one day base tickets which can be saved for a future trip and upgraded if you're using the salute tickets on this trip. It may or may not be a better deal. It seems the higher the rack rate on the room, the better the 40% discount is versus free dining. I would compare the amount of the room discount versus what you would have to pay for dining for your whole party and make a decision based on that.

You're absolutely right; another variable is how many people are actually in your party. Since I am traveling with only my daughter this trip, the 40% off was a better deal than free dining, even though we're staying at a value. :goodvibes
