Hey all,
Just looking for a little help choosing a hotel in San Diego.
We are flying in/out of San Diego vs LAX and are planning on spending a few days to enjoy the SD area, Sea World and the SD Zoo ..........before heading up to DL .
Was just wondering about any nice hotels that are close to the Airport, SW and the Zoo. I have been looking at the Mission Bay area, and Coronado island area. The Hotel Del Coronado would be nice but ..........wow thats pricey !!! :faint: .

Looking for a nice safe hotel with a great pool, on the water would be nice, and close to restaurants . Also a hotel that has a little more than just a 2 queen room. Something like a little suite with an extra living room with a foldout couch would be great .

Thanks !

We really like the Homewood Suites at Liberty Station near San Diego airport. It meets some of your requirements. It's very close to the airport, located in a safe and pretty area with lots of walking paths. There are several restaurants within walking distance. It's an all suites hotel. We usually stay in a one bedroom suite with a door between the king bedroom and the living room with the foldout couch. It's a pretty quick drive to the Balboa Park area where the zoo is and also not a bad drive to the Mission Bay area where Sea World is. Pool was small but serviceable. There's a basketball hoop and pool table. Hot breakfast is served each morning and there is an evening meal Mon-Thurs.

Really? That's weird. You might want to check again. For kicks, I put in July 1-July 31, and it showed availability with multiple room type choices. It was really expensive for July 23-26 though so something must be going on then.

Take a wild guess what weekend we need ! :headache:
Yep checking in July 24, and checking out July 27 .
There didn't show any availability for 25, and 26 when I checked it . :furious:

What the heck is going that weekend ???:confused3:confused:.

Too bad because it looked nice, but I did see the price difference for what was available that weekend ! Talk about a price jump ........its like double the price. Something must be going on.

Thanks for checking !!! :)

Um...I'm thinking that may be Comic-Con weekend. Huge event. San Diego hotels are going to be expensive. You might want to check.

Um, you are correct ,lol. Just checked out the website :rotfl2: . I am guessing that will bring a lot of dressed up superheros, villans and such. ;)

I guess it will be cool, just need to find a good hotel before all the "Big Bangers" grab all the rooms ! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the heads up !

Now I have to make some room in my luggage for my Syndrome costume .............if you cant beat em, join em ! :woohoo: :lmao: Nevermind ..........change of plans, we will just flip flop our "San Diego" weekend for the next weekend. What a difference in rates and availability !!! We can be flexible. Still looking for good hotel recommendations. Really like the Homewood Suites so far !

Those are Comic Con dates. Book now. The entire city sells out of rooms that week. Worth heading downtown to the Convention Center even without tickets. Plenty of fun.

We had originally planned our wedding during Comic Con week 10 years ago. Nobody could get a room. Of course once I learned it was Comic Con week we had to get married then. We had a Klingon officiate. It was awesome.

Thanks, we have decided to switch our SD weekend stay till the next weekend. Not only will we avoid the huge crowds due to Comic Con , but also the extreme rate hike the hotels have for CC weekend :headache:.

So now with no trouble getting a decent priced room...........Homewood suites is available and looks great. Also the Courtyard Marriott directly next door looks great as well. A little less expensive than Homewood, but no free breakfast. Would really like to get the Homewood 2 Bdrm suite, but the price is quite a jump from the regular 1 bdrm suites.
Does anyone know if you can get a rollaway bed at the Homewood Suites. It will only be 4 of us, but our boys will not sleep in the same bed anymore !!! A rollaway in a 1 bdrm suite will be a lot less $$$ than a 2 bdrm suite.

Thanks !

I know its pricey but the Hotel Del Coronado always runs promos like buy 2 get one free. If you sign up for there offers they always send deals to my email as well.

Regardless of the hotel choice, plan a meal at Hash House a Go Go, but go with an appetite. Hodad's is more of a surfer themed burger place, but great burgers.

Just an FYI for anyone else who may be wondering ........ Homewood Suites DOES provide rollaway beds free of charge on a first come first served basis. They can be requested at the time of reservation also .

I think we have a winner ! Thanks for all the help everyone . Looks like it will be Homewood Suites Liberty Station for us. Can't beat the location, price and it's a very nice all suite hotel. Pool is a little basic, but it will suit us just fine. Can't complain about FREE breakfast either !

Thanks !

Thanks for the info about the rollaway beds. I had wondered, but my boys were fine just sharing the sofa bed last time. They camp a lot so don't tend to be fussed about comfort. My older boy is going to be too tall for that sofabed in the future unless he sleeps diagonal, so we figured if we went back rollaway availability is something we would need to know.

I hope you enjoy your stay. We have stayed there three times now and been very pleased with each visit.

Thanks for recommending the Homewood. It looks to be one of the nicer hotels in the area.
Just booked it tonight ! I just bit the bullet and went for the 2 bdrm suite. I got a good rate with my HHonors account. About 20% of rack, which is better than the 10% AAA rate. So what the heck !
If anyone wants the special code# for the rate, let me know ! :thumbsup2
You have to be a HHonors member though for it to work . But that's free and easy to do.

Thanks again
