We are renting a car and want to get some groceries for our upcoming trip to Grand Californian Villas. Where is the closest and nicest grocery store? We mostly get sandwich fixings and fruit. Thanks!

I think this is what we used a couple of years ago.

Albertsons - 2.32 miles away
9822 Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92804

Someone living down there might know of some others.

Ralph's at Chapman and Euclid is nice. From GCH go south on Disneyland Drive about 1 mile, then turn right on Chapman Ave. Euclid is about another mile and the store is on the southwest, next to the Walgreen's.

Just wanted to put in to avoid the Vons on Chapman. One year we were sent there at night when we checked in to our hotel and it was horrible. They had a security guard at the door, really shady customers, and the quality of the products was a little worrisome. Last year we used our GPS to navigate to an Albertson's nearby (don't remember which one). It was much better than Vons but not near what we are used to in our "suburb" shopping areas. :-) We will have to give the Ralphs a try on our next trip.

We went to the Vons on Lincoln and it was fine. We always shop at Safeway here, never at Albertons (yuck, around here, at least), so going to Vons (same company) was an easy choice for us. They have a big store-brand organic line that we LOVE (to be fair, Albertsons has a store organic brand as well) and trust (ingredient issues).

Looking at the location info on the traderjoes website, seems the one at 2114 N Tustin St Orange, CA 92865 would be the closest.

Tustin would be a bit of a drive isn't it? I'd stick with the ones listed above. We will be staying in the villas in a few months and I will make note of where these stores are.

Bumber you made me laugh because you're right, at least in Portland as well, Albertsons really isn't that great. Although they have gotten slightly better :)

I agree about that Vons not very savory :scared1:

So, what are the *nice* grocery stores on the West Coast? The only one I'm familiar with (obviously) is Trader Joe's, and there are those of us who literally will drive an hour + to get to the closest one to stock up (I found one that I think will work, BTW). It has cult like status around here - there are whole Facebook pages devoted to bringing it to our area. But other than that, I have no idea about Albertsons, Vonns, etc.

Is the Target that's just south of DLR a SuperTarget or regular Target? Both would have groceries as well, just that ST would have more.

oops I didn't read the previous post asking the same question about Target, til after I posted!

Over here the nice ones are Vons & Albertsons. Ralphs is also nice, but I think it depends on the neighborhood.

If you are flying in to LAX, there is a Ralphs nearby, (take Sepulveda south for about 1-2 miles) on the corner of Sepulveda & Mariposa. I work in the area & go there sometimes. They have fresh produce, deli items, and you can get stuff like sushi, if you like that. Then go back north on Sepulveda, turn right on Imperial Hwy (less than a mile), and get right on the 105 east.

There is a Henrys Farmers Market further up Harbour Blvd in Fullerton Ca that we tried that was a good clean reasonably priced market. Bonus feature is that there's an In-N-Out burger across the street. Have a great day!

Trish

Just found the answer! It's a regular Target. The Target website says that the closest Super Target is 42 miles away.
True, but the newish Target at Lincoln and Euclid is expanding their grocery section, with a "target" ;) date of March 11th. It was pretty good before, so this should be interesting.

Someone mentioned Henry's on Harbor Blvd in Fullerton - I'll second that. It's on your left just past the 91 freeway, before you get to Orangethorpe and In-N-Out Burger.

The Von's on Chapman in west Garden Grove, about 7 miles west of Harbor Blvd is clean and upscale. The one on Chapman in east Garden Grove and east of Harbor Blvd is iffy, as mentioned above.

The Ralphs that I mentioned above is rates high on the "close and nice" scale.

So when you order from Vons, is that the Vons the products come from ?

Jack
I am not sure, if delivery is out of that store.
I have a family member in safeway district offices; that tells me that products like perishables are "picked" from the backroom By specific department employees (not the bagger) and are freshest/quality for deliveries.
So I am sure that the quality would be acceptable, just not the shopping experience lol
