Thank you, Heidi. You too, Sam.

I like writing for the DIS. I can just never think of anything to write about that hasn't been well-covered already. My last article was about why you should attend a DIS meet, a topic near and dear to my heart. http://www.wdwinfo.com/walt-disney-world/why-you-need-to-attend-a-dis-meet/

I'm working on one now that probably won't appear until early next year about the 30th anniversary of the Disney Stores.

Nice article Steve, and you make some great points.

Personally, eating out is a part of vacation for us so not sure we could follow all of your advice - but even still, some of the tips can work. Picking up snacks (even if you have to do a garden grocer order or something if you don't have a car) can help a lot. Also, even at table service location as long as it isn't a buffet you can split entrees or apps as well to reduce the cost some. That is one reason the dining plan doesn't work for us as we very rarely get an appetizer, entree, and dessert each

Lastly, usually when we travel down to Florida we spend some time at Disney and some time with family and we always do Sweet Tomatoes at least once a trip

Thanks for sharing this!

@disneysteve - Great article! Lots of great tips - we use the Florida water too (although we fill up at the resort food court at night, which might be filtered - but during the day we refill from the water fountains), and we normally bring most of our own breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. Disney food can definitely get expensive, so any tips to help save money are awesome!

Great tips! I am going to try some of your ideas on my next trip since I will have 5 mouths to feed instead of two.

Part of the vacation fun for us are the nice sit-down restaurants...the food, atmosphere, not-having-to-cook, etc. However, each trip we spend less and less on food as we know we can share items, split entrees, desserts, etc. And with most meals, the portions are plenty for two or three to share. We also bring our own water and soft drinks (or get the refillable mugs). It's amazing how much money one can save!

Yes, eating is DEFINITELY a HUGE part of my WDW vacation; I actually plan my vacation around where I want to eat, not the other way 'round. Unfortunately, that's also the story of my life, which is probably why I've struggled with weight my entire life - eating is such a hobby for me. When I'm not DOING it, I'm THINKING about it - literally. I've been fairly successful in my latest bout with the beast, but set loose in a food mecca like WDW, I'm not so sure I'd do well right now. :)

Very nice job by you too, Ryan - thanx for sharing the link!!

Awesome article! Like many here, I live to eat rather than eat to live and the dining is a big part of our vacation, but now that we've done that twice (Deluxe Dining Plan - we went all out!), we may cut back and keep these tricks in mind. And we drive down too (because, quite frankly, the 15 hour drive with a stopover is still better than shelling out the $900-$1200 in plane fare for three that I can't seem to not find for whatever dates), so bringing snacks is already in our DNA.

Hey! Even a shout out on the daily fix!
Really? Was that yesterday? I'll have to go watch. I rarely watch any of the DIS video content.

ETA: Sorry but I have to say that was really cool! Thanks for letting me know.

Yep, it was on yesterday's Daily Fix, Steve, and Craig even SMILED during most of it!!

And I also got quite used to doing a Garden Grocer order for my trips, even if I flew (or maybe I should say especially if I flew, since I don't usually have access to a car for grocery store runs). I found it especially convenient and cost effective if staying in say a DVC property with a kitchen, but would still do it even in other places for snacks, and especially coffee and water, and even laundry supplies! And definitely cut down on valuable luggage space after they started charging for bags!!

I enjoyed the article and could see us using some of these tips if we do our next big trip as a central FL vacation. As much as I enjoy being inside the Disney bubble, staying offsite is often ideal for hitting WDW, Uni, Kennedy Space Center, and a number of smaller attractions in the area...and obviously, you get more bang for the buck in many regards.
