Pete, I'm sad about your very legal-sounding disclaimer after Kevin & John's latest restaurant review. It's too bad that we are part of a world where such a disclaimer should be necessary.

With that said, I loved the review and keep up the great work!

Opinions about the qualify of food or a dining experience are opinions. They aren't really capable of being proven false and without showing the reviewer intended to cause harm, are very difficult to win.

Kevin's "sad little crab cake" is quintessentially opinion but one pretty solidly grounded upon facts (see photo below).

I think Pete, while I don't speak for him, is simply trying to head off a repeat of some past comments by people who view dining experiences at WDW to be sacrosanct.

JMNSHO.

Kevin hated my favorite restaurant and my favorite thing to eat there. I didn't care at all and it wouldn't have crossed my mind to complain. That's nuts.

Plus, I'm kind of glad. I worry when people start saying they like the place. I don't want it to turn into a Boma or Le Cellier. Of course, I always worried when people said they liked the Tusker House breakfast and was happy it wasn't too popular and look where that got me. Still...

People need to stop wigging over stupid crap.

One time I ran into one of those Tennessee lynch mobs they mentioned on the podcast when I made a thread about how we saved money by eating off-site and how that really isn't a big deal to do. You would have thought I kicked their puppy. I was accused of being cheap, dumb, and a bad parent all. And then I mentioned how we sometimes eat in our villa, oh the horror.

I think you are confusing a "Tennessee lynch mob" with Lynchburg, Tennessee, where they make excellent Tennessee whiskey.

Maybe, it should be considered a form of flattery that the opinion of the podcasters is held in such an esteem to cause someone to be offended.
I know it sounds crazy...but if listener takes their opinion so seriously as to be offended...that means what they are say is important enough to bother someone.

Now after saying that.....an opinion is an opinion ....everyone has different tastes and likes.
My dbf and I thought Sanaa was an awesome meal and expressed that to Kevin when we saw him. He said it was not one of his favorites. No offense taken....different tastes and a snapshot in time.

Although my disclaimer is...I agree with John and Kevin 99% of the time. Loved Jiko, Narcoossees and Citricos ...thanks John and Kevin for piquing my interest to try them.

I just wanted to add that this disclaimer has been pretty standard on all of Kevin's reviews. Sometimes Kevin says it, sometimes Pete, but they just want to reinforce that this was a single review by them and doesn't necessarily reflect what you may think when you go. As they say, you need to try these places yourself since everybody's experiences and expectations are different.

Having said that, I find that Val & I agree with Kevin's reviews about 95% of the time and if he gives a place a good review we will put it on the list of places to try (not that we haven't tried just about everything anyway). If he gives a place a bad review it doesn't get on the list, but we might try it anyway if the opportunity presents itself.

The disclaimer started because people got their knickers in a twist because I didn't like their favorite restaurant.

My reviews, while hopefully entertaining, are an opinion.

I'll repeat that.....my reviews are an opinion. I have lots of them.

My favorite color is blue. My favorite song is "Calling All Angels" by Jane Sibbery. My favorite automobile is my 2005 PT Cruiser. My favorite computer is my iMac.

These are all opinions. You can agree, you can disagree, but these are mine.

Over the last 5 years, many people have agreed and many people have disagreed.

It's all good. I've stopped taking the angry, hate mail seriously.

I hope my reviews entice people to try places they haven't. How will you know if you agree or disagree with what I've said if you don't try?

People always ask me to use stars (or forks, or mickey heads) to rate restaurants. That's not my thing. I'm just relating an experience. There are a lot of places to spend money at WDW and my goal is to let you know what my experience was.

I'm always asked what my favorite meal is at WDW and that's easy....

I love the maize crusted fish, roasted vegetables and tomato butter at Jiko.

I also love the Cobb Salad and tomato soup at Earl of Sandwich.

I think both are a good value at widely different price points.

Thank you for listening....whether you agree or not.

I love when someone gets all wigged out over a review. Remember Carlos? If he wasn't for him we might never have learned Kevin's skirt name! :rotfl2:

I love the reviews, I don't take them as gospel, but they have prompted me to try places I probably wouldn't have otherwise. Although, I did cross Shutters off my list of places to ever try. The picture of the "spleen" on a plate was just too much for me.

I agree, I love the wigging (except when it gets hurtful :sad2:). I enjoy listening to Kevin's reviews and I love his dry wit. The first thing I did in my new car was figure out how to listen to the podcasts as my loaner didn't have that option. I am going on a trip today so I am anxiously awaiting the review of a place I don't really care for. :goodvibes Penny

Good feedback on this thread :) My initial reason for jibing Pete about the disclaimer was to get a laugh. But like anything else, there were mixed answers and emotions.

So Pete, I'm not criticizing the disclaimer. Kevin, I love the reviews and frankly, I love the funny stories that inevitably come out of the reviews. Moral: No knickers in a twist here - just poking fun :)

No worries!

That's exactly how I took it.;)

My favorite color is blue....

BLUE!?!? Are you kidding me? I can't believe you said blue. Do you not know how rabid the fans of red and green are (don't even get me started on those orange crazies)? My god man, think! I hope you're wearing flame retardant underwear. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

BTW, thanks for recommending the maize crusted "corvina at the present time" at Jiko. I tried it and it was awesome!

I listen to the reviews with the knowledge that they are opinions and nothing more. I've agreed with most of what Kevin says, but there are a few that I disagree with...and that's ok.

In September, I went to Flame Tree BBQ at AK...I had heard such great things about it on the boards and was very much looking forward to eating there.....well, to make a long story short....I won't go back anytime too soon...I was very disappointed with it and the food was terrible....maybe it was an off day....but this is my opinion for that day....I'm sure this happens for everyone.

It's all good. I've stopped taking the angry, hate mail seriously.
You get angry hate mail over restaurant reviews?

:lmao:

Poor Kevin.

Your reviews are always entertaining.

People do take you seriously! A friend of mine listened (doesn't DIS, but she listens) and now we have to eat in France, which I know I will hate because I don't like cheese or frou-frou food. "But Kevin said..."

OK, fine. Kevin said. Can't argue with that. I will eat in France. Won't kill me. She'll probably love it, though. :)

I love the dining reviews, they are usually some of my favourite segments.

I especially love the ones where the dining experience is completely awful. Just the way that things get described has me fits of laughter.

The reviews where the meal is good... boo Disney, don't try so hard next time. :rotfl2:

I know they are opinions, personally I wouldn't eat virtually anything that Kevin and John try (I'm vegetarian) and typically we don't eat at sit down venues, but that doesn't stop me enjoying hearing their opinions!

The whingers seriously need to find a new hobby (or send in their own reviews).
