(I know there have been a bunch of NF posts, I haven't seen this addressed yet.)

For Maid of the Mist/Cave of the Winds... are you required to wear their issued ponchos? My understanding is they recycle them, but I'd prefer sticking to the first "R" and reduce from the get go. I just can't see that the little saran wrap sort of things are going to do much to keep you dry in alot of water anyway. If you have to wear something (I'm not sure why you would, but...), I'd just as soon bring our Gore-tex jackets. Otherwise, we'd just wear click drying clothes or bring a change.

I do understand you have to wear the issued-sandals at CotW, but at least those are reusable. (Such a fashion statement!)

I can't remember being forced to wear them. They are color coded yellow for one blue for another. I don't know if that has anything to do with keeping track of who paid or not?
Surprisingly we did stay rather dry.

They do keep you very dry. I did see other people there with their own rain coats/ponchos on. I'm sure it will be fine to wear your own.
Have fun!!

Lat time I went on MoM, the blue coats were not recycled. Many people kept them. Maybe you could recycle them but my kids kept theirs.

I kept mine. I'm sure there will be no problem wearing your own though.

thanks all. Are they something more substancial than the WDW sort of thin ponchos? We had to break down and get those on a local theme park trip and we were still pretty soggy? I thought I read on the MotM website they recycled them. ACK, if not, makes me a little ill. I'll hope people are reusing them as some of you said!

(And you'd think I'd have something more important to be doing, like, oh, packing.... lol)

The attractions all have recycle bins at the exits to deposit your ponchos. They wouldn't force anyone to wear one, I'm sure you could bring your own. In fact, we would see people with ponchos from Cave of the Winds on Maid fo the Mist, etc. They are quite thin but kept us surprisingly dry. I wouldn't go on CotW or MotM without one, you will be soaked. Journey Behind the Falls and Niagara's Fury, not as much, but still wet. DH and I were commenting on the immense # of ponchos they must go through.
