Next Yr Discount - Which is better to add people or drop?

Asking here is better than being on hold, lol!

Want to hold reservation for next year but 2 people may or may not come; would still book same room type either way (ASM - family suite).
So which is better/easiest/allowable to book?

5 people (Free Dinning offer) then just drop the 2 if needed
or
3 people (Free Dinning offer) but add other 2 later if they decided to join

Since with Free Dinning everyone in the room has to be on the plan, if I booked the 3 and then added people to the ressie, they would have to give me the Free Dinning for them too right?
If I added the others after the promo ends (Nov 2010) would they make me rebook taking away the Free Dinning?

I would book with the 5 people now & then drop extras later, if needed. I like to see my price go down if I need to make a change, not go up. The only real price difference will be the park tickets since your room is not affected & dining is free.

Be careful if you are within 45 days of arrival, there will be a $50 change fee to change.

Book 3 and then add the 2 later. I'm told Disney is more likely to waive the change fee if you're added $ than reducing.

I've heard that up to the 45 day before arriving you can make any changes with no problem. Once you are inside of the 45 day mark, then you should be upgrading the reservation rather than downgrading to avoid the fee so I would go with adding your friends later rather than taking them off.

Thanks! I knew about the change fee if within the 45 day period but didn't know they would waive it if people were being added. So, if I add, the people would automatically get the Free Dinning as well even though by then the promotion would be over? I just wouldn't want Dis Reservations to tell me they have to rebook the whole thing and I lose the FD for everyone.

I did it last year--DD decided to come with us and I had no poblem with getting the free dining for her on our reservation even though the offer was no longer available (we were in a one-bedroom unit at Old Key West). I had to add the same park tickets for her that we had. If you have any problems I would just call up again and get another CM.

i just went through this,
they only charge $50 if you are reducing the cost of the trip, so removing people would fall into this category

BUT, we had to cancel our reservation for next week outright b/c we are staying on points now and they waived the fee!! ($100)
