Next Year's Oscar Host Has Been Announced

I read that Chris Rock will be hosting the Oscars next year.

Maybe it's just me, but he seems like an odd choice. Most of his comedy routines I've seen are somewhat... err... not good for prime time tv? lol!

Not to mention the host is usually involved in a cheesy musical montage at the beginning of the show. I just can't see him doing that.

So what do you think? Good replacement for Billy Crystal or no?

Also, who would you like to see as host for the Oscars? I was thinking Robin Williams. It would certainly be.. umm.. animated?

He's pretty funny. I don't usually watch the oscars though so I don't know what is really expected of the host. I'm sure he could tone his more adult parts of his act down for prime time.

I agree...very odd choice. Not one that will appeal to the broad market but it's a known fact that Oscars need to beef up ratings in the younger crowd so I guess this is the reason.
Will have to see if it works or is just another blown experiment that brings another event down to a level of comedy that is not needed.

Personally, I LOVE Billy Crystal. But he does seem to want some time off between gigs--maybe he'll be back next year.

I really enjoy his movies a lot but I'm not a big fan of his stand up.

Agreed, I think it is an odd choice as well! I do like his movies, but his stand up act I could live without.

He hosted the Grammy Awards a few years back and I thought he did a great job. Not quite as mainstream as the Oscars, but I think he'll do very well. Chris Rock is a bright guy and I'm sure he'll tailor his act to the potential TV audience. I'll look forward to it. He certainly couldn't be any worse than Garry Shandling at this year's Emmys.

I think Chris Rock is a good choice. He can do a wide variety of comedy.. really. He will have a staff of writers too...

I LOVE Robin Williams... He is my Number 1 choice of "People I would like to meet" However.. I don't know that he could do the Academy Awards.. in the 3 hour limitation. I do believe I would be ROTFLMAO THE ENTIRE 3 hours tho!!!
