Well, we are thinking of booking a trip for April of 2005-much sooner than we had planned. We just went in November of 2003. It will be our 5th trip. Some reasons for booking now...It will be my son's last year in elementary school (5th grade) and his last year of year round school. Also, I will be teaching, so from now on, we will be limited to summertime. Also, I wanted to go one more time before he gets that "middle school attitude".

But, I'm not as excited as I was when we went when he was younger...It seems some of the magic is gone, now that he's not as into the younger aspects of Disney. I also used to get him small goody bag surprises and can't really do that for an 11 year old. It also seems a little too soon since our last trip.

Any suggestions?

Hmmmmmmmm..... what would you think about the time in between our trips..... plus we were just there in June, March, February, December, and August. LOL

Well, we went in December, again with my brother and family in July, are planning December again, and now with the hotel e-mail we got DH is trying to get me brave enough to 'fly" there for a long week-end in October too!!! (We always drive there from MN/WI) Our children are in college and Disney is WONDERFUL without them. We loved it with them also. My youngest was 13 and 16 the last two times he came with us and had a GREAT time.

As for "surprizes"??? Since we drive everywhere I would start months ahead of our vacations and find little "prizes" and start collecting them. They ranged from baseball/football cards, to hand held video games, to cute candies, etc. They would get them at various times throughout the trip. WELL, next week we are driving to Montreal, Canada with my 19 y/o son and his 19 y/o girlfriend and he asked me if they were getting prizes!!! Of course they would have anyway, BUT, it was cute they asked. So I DO have my little bag of prizes for them!!!

Seems to me like you're thinking you're all to old for fun and games!!! The magic of Disney is that it's for "everyone"!!!

If you don't think you'll have fun or that you'll be excited about it by April, then I think you should find another destination this time and then head to Disney another time. A Disney trip is a big chunk of money, and you don't want to come back thinking, "Oh ... we should have waited." There's no rule that says you have to go to WDW a certain number of times in a lifetime, and maybe you just need a break.

Why not sit the family down and talk about vacation destinations? You may find that everyone else is chomping at the bit to get back to WDW; or you may find that everyone would much rather just spend a week at the beach or someplace else.

As for "goody bag" stuff for an 11 year old ... I've never met an 11 year old who didn't like free stuff!

But I would definitely discuss it with the rest of the gang. If they don't want to go, don't feel guilty about going somewhere else!

:earsboy:

I was also going to add just what WDSearcher said. I agree, perhaps another destination would be better if you're not excited about it. My point being that you don't have to panic because you think he may "get" to be too old!!! (not sure if I exactly sounded that way), my boys loved it at all ages and we still enjoy it, but no prizes for the 11 year old!!! ;~(

Actually, we leave for two weeks for Hawaii, so maybe I'll see what I feel like when I get back from that.

We are doing a family reunion in 9 days! My brother is bringing his 14 year old and his twin 10 year olds 9 (all boys). We got them excited by pointing out things they would be interested in such as, the thrill rides, Disneyquest, water parks, mini golf and more. I think that is really the key- that there is something for all ages.

Coming from a couple that just can't get enough of WDW, it is never too soon.
I bet as time gets closer, you will be more excited.

We go in May, Sept and Dec. for a total of four weeks.
